Erie County sheriff's officials have ended their investigation into a crash that claimed the life of an Arcade mother of two, after charging the other driver with a traffic violation for failing to yield at a stop sign.
Sheriff's deputies said a vehicle driven by Travis Mayer, 23, of East Aurora, went through a stop sign on Hunters Creek Road on June 21 and struck the driver's door of a vehicle driven by Diane L. Hamblin.
Hamblin died in Erie County Medical Center, following the two-vehicle crash that afternoon in the Town of Wales.

The History Of Bobsledding The sled, created centuries ago, has mainly been a mode of transportation. The actual sport of racing with bobsleds wasn't initiated until the late 19th century, when a steering mechanism was added to the inside of the tobbogan.
Bobsledding started in Albany, N.Y. in 1897 and then the idea quickly streamed through Switzerland, which started the growth of the sport in winter resorts throughout Europe. By the year of 1914, races were happening on different natural ice courses.
The first sleds were completely constructed with wood, until they were replaced with steel sleds that gained the title "the bobsled." This title had to do with the way crews bobbed back and forth to make the sled go faster on straightaways.
In 1923, the Federation Internationale de Bobsleigh et de Tobogganing (FIBT) was created and the next year a quartet participated in the first Winter Olympics in Chamoix, France. Then, at the 1932 Olympics, a two-man even was added in Laked Placid, N.Y.
Racing bobsled began as a past time for the wealthy and outgoing who would gather at the alpine resorts for weekends in which there would be racing and partying.

All rates are for the 2005 - 2006 winter season. Utah Olympic Park was a competition venue for the 2002 Olympic Winter Games for Nordic jumping and the sliding sports of bobsleigh, luge and skeleton. The nearly 400-acre Park features a mixture of sporting facilities and visitor areas for an incredible Olympic experience. The state-of-the-art park hosted more than 300,000 visitors and 14 Olympic medal events in February 2002. The Utah Olympic Park now serves as a year-round competition and training ground for recreational and high-performance athletes. Construction on the facility started in 1990 with the development of the infrastructure, the 750,000 gallon freestyle training pool and the ski jumps as part of phase I. The sliding track was included in the second phase and started in the spring of 1994. The first athlete to go down the track was on a luge on January 10, 1997. Today, the public can watch athletes in training, visit the Alf Engen Ski History Museum and the George Eccles Salt Lake 2002 Olympic Winter Games Museum, race down the track in a bobsled, or learn how to steer your own skeleton or luge sled by taking an Intro camp. The Park is owned by a non-profit organization, the Utah Athletic Foundation which is responsible for keeping the Park and the Utah Olympic Oval operating for use by future athletes, world champions and the general public. A four-man bobsled team jumps into their bobsled.
Eckenhard Shulz In a way, skeleton has been around as long as daredevils have blasted down slopes on small sleds, careening along on their stomachs, braving the ice in a thrilling head-first ride. But in terms of Olympic events, skeleton was included in only two previous Winter Games, those of 1928 and 1948, both in St. Moritz, Switzerland.
Bobsled is both the oldest and newest Winter Olympics sport. Men's bobsled has been around since the first Winter Games, held in Chamonix, France, in 1924, but next year's Games will be the first for women's bobsled.
The Salt Lake 2002 Winter Games also will feature the first Olympic competition by women skeleton sliders.

Park City owes its birth and fame to the surrounding mountains. In 1868, federal soldiers discovered these peaks capped a wealth of silver ore. The subsequent silver rush brought forth Park City, which grew into one of the richest, wildest and most celebrated mining towns in the West. By the 1950s, the silver had run out and Park City seemed destined to become a ghost town. But the mountains once again brought life to the town, only this time the treasure lay atop the slopes rather than underneath. Utah powder ~ the skier's "gold standard" for snow ~ transformed Park City into a ski town. By the 1980s, Park City was renowned as home to world-class ski resorts.

Vonetta Flowers displays the gold medal she won in the 2000 Winter Olympics.
Olympic Gold Medalist Vonetta Flowers to visit Tusculum College and Greeneville in October Greeneville and Greene County residents will receive the opportunity to meet a history-making Winter Olympic gold medalist who has an inspiring and faith-building personal story when bobsledder and track star Vonetta Flowers visits Greeneville as a guest of Tusculum College on Oct. 16-18. Vonetta Flowers is the first black athlete from any nation ever to win a gold medal in the Winter Olympics. She won the medal in women's bobsled, a seemingly unlikely sport for a native of Alabama who knew virtually nothing about bobsledding before finding herself representing the U.S. in that sport in the 2002 Winter Olympics. Vonetta Flowers will make her initial Greeneville appearance at the First Presbyterian Church fellowship hall area at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 16, to take part in an hour-long community forum, which will include an autograph session. On Friday, Oct. 17, she will attend an invitation-only dinner on the Tusculum College campus and meet and greet special guests who have helped support her visit to Tusculum. At 8 p.m., she will present a speech to Tusculum College students in the auditorium of the Annie Hogan Byrd Fine Arts Building, and also answer questions. On Saturday, Oct. 18, the gold medalist will breakfast with Tusculum College's athletic teams and present a brief devotional. At noon, she will meet and greet Tusculum alumni present for that weekend's Homecoming festivities.
