Why Boarding School?
In 2003, the Art and Science Group conducted a nationwide survey of over 2,700 high school students and adults at different points in their lives regarding their experiences in high school and their lives since. Highlights of the survey include the following key findings:
  • Students at boarding schools have a better experience in high school than do students of a similar profile in public and private day schools. Students at boarding schools are better prepared for college and attend more prestigious colleges and universities than do students of a similar profile in public and private day schools. Alumni of boarding schools appear to advance more quickly in their careers and are more active philanthropically. Many of the prevailing negative stereotypes concerning boarding school are untrue.

SBSA schools provide high quality boarding at the lowest possible cost. You pay only the cost of boarding as the education at SBSA schools is free. This is only a fraction of the cost of boarding at an independent school. Admission to State Boarding Schools in the UK is limited to children who are nationals of the UK and are eligible to hold a full UK passport, or those who are nationals of other European Union countries or those who have the right of residence in the UK. The holding of a BN(O) passport does not make the child eligible for a State Boarding School in the UK. Most schools are 11-18 schools, though there is one 13-18 school, two which offer Primary Boarding as well as Secondary Boarding and one 11-16 school with a nearby Sixth Form College. Most schools are mixed, but there are a small number of girls’ schools or boys’ schools.

Welcome to the ISCis London and South East web-site. We can help - whether you are just beginning to think about choosing a private school and don't know where to start or whether you need specific information. Above all, because we represent every accredited public school in the region, we are in the unique position of being able to offer unbiased, objective consultation. Every accredited public school is 'in our book' and our only consideration is whether a school will meet your needs. ISC has overall responsibility for the Independent Schools Inspectorate (ISI), which ensures high standards among ISC public schools and which works under a framework agreed with Ofsted (Office for Standards in Education). A public school must pass an ISI accreditation inspection to qualify for membership of an association within ISC. Public schools are evaluated on their educational standards (including attainment, learning and behaviour), quality of teaching, assessment and recording, curriculum, staffing, premises and resources, links with parents and the community, pupils’ personal development and pastoral care, management, efficiency, aims and ethos. A handbook of all accredited public schools in the ISIS London and South East region (currently 530) is published each year giving parents the following information:
    • numbers of boys and girls availability of transport scholarships and bursaries offered brief details of entry requirements special needs catered for termly fees religious affiliation

    Boarding Schools :

The term "private boarding school" is often used to describe a program or school where a parent sends a troubled teen. These private boarding schools are sometimes referred to as specialty boarding schools and range from 3-6 month periods or longer. Some specialty boarding schools (those listed on our site) provide the necessary tools for permanent change such as seminars, follow up, and structure for troubled teens. We promote residential treatment, specialty boarding schools, and behavior modification programs. Featured Boarding Schools : Academy at Ivy Ridge

      Main characteristics
The term boarding school fundamentally refers to classic British boarding schools , and most boarding schools around the world are modeled on the classic British boarding school. Boarding schools have specified rooms or allotted areas for different activities that occur throughout the day as defined by the boarding school administrators. These activities have a predefined structure and time set by the institution. These predefined schedules and norms are to be strictly followed, the failure of which could earn punishment . These rooms include the dormitory , where pupils share sleeping quarters, particularly on bunk beds , the refectory , where pupils take meals at fixed schedules, and the study hall , where pupils do their academic work. It also has facilities for bath and washing, and a storehouse for the storage of residents' belongings. Boarding schools also provide a
