Ok, I made a little basic blues tab for you guys, just some simple 12 bar blues. Twelve Bar Blues Blues music originally came from the USA in the 19th century and was a form of music played by black slaves. It was full of soul and emotion and some may even be found as depressing. The original blues music often contained sad lyrics that dealt with everyday issues of life, that the slaves found hard to cope with. Slowly, as blues became more popular and spread into the urban areas it gradually becaome more 'happy.' By 1920 3 destinct styles of blues had been established. 12 Bar Blues
12 Bar blues is still the most popular type, and is adopted by many contempoary musicians. All of the chords used are dominant 7th chords, and usually follow the following pattern: In the key of C that would be: There is also a scale associated with the 12 bar blues, which, surprisingly, is called the blues scale . It follows the pattern: 1, b3, 4, #4, 5, b7, which in C is: C, Eb, F, F#, G, Bb. The b3, #4 and b7 are considered to be the 'blue' notes, and characterise the style. "The All-Music Guide To The Blues"
Ed. by Cub Coda, Michael Erlewine, et al
(Miller Freeman Books, 1996)

The blues have gotten such a bad reputation in the last decade or so, under a cloud of bland "beer-ad" bands, that it's nice to see a book like this which takes in all the hi-tech drek along with the roots music, from A to Z. Dozens of blues mavens contribute reviews and essays, including appendices on regional scenes, piano blues, jug band blues, women in the blues, and a handy bibliography for those of us who still want more reading material, even after such a smorgasbord as this. Highly recommended to hardcore fans and the idly curious alike.

By "postwar blues", we mean the upbeat, amplified, often aggressive material that many popologists see simply as the roots of rock'n'roll. But for blues fans, the muscular power and driving passion of the bluesmen is enough by itself, and this collection of articles and interviews profiling many of the genre's greatest players, is manna from heaven for the folks who could care less what happened after Elvis shook his little heinie on the Ed Sullivan show. This is a classicist's view of the blues standardbearers such as Otis Rush, Muddy Waters and BB King get multiple entries, wild West Coast and Texas bluesmen like T-Bone Walker and Clarence Gatemouth Brown also get their propers, and while the main emphasis is on the dudes who plugged in, acoustic players such as Fred McDowell also get a nod or two. The book draws on a variety of writers, and reflects a variety of interviewing and narrative styles most of the material originally appeared in

A new generation of Washington blues musicians is also beginning to wow crowds. Live music Tuesday through Sunday nights, usually blues or rock.

ENJOYING THE BLUES
By William Triplett Blues and jazz were sometimes classified together; dancers and comedians often alternated slots on makeshift stages with street musicians. Eventually, legitimate clubs began to appear. As roots music began to catch on with white musicians and audiences in the 1960s, Washington experienced a surge of new clubs and bars. Blues groups were staples. The Blues You Would Just Hate to Lose, Vol. II, Blues is still one of the most vibrant sounds on the Washington scene. Despite the recent deaths of titans Archie Edwards and John Jackson, the acoustic front marches on. Edwards, a master of the Piedmont style, made his living as a barber; a Saturday-afternoon jam session still takes place in his old shop on Bunker Hill Road, Northeast. Jackson, another Piedmont master, worked as a gravedigger in the Virginia suburbs despite having played for admiring audiences in Carnegie Hall and the Royal Albert Hall. Other veterans of plugged-in blues include Whop Frazier, Deanna Bogart, Mary Ann Redmond, Cathy Ponton King, Catfish Hodge, Janine Wilson, Mary Shaver, Saffire, Big Joe Maher, Big Jesse Yawn, Charlie Sayles, Steve Jacobs, Linwood Taylor, Joe Stanley, and Rusty Bogart. Any of their names on a marquee pretty much guarantees a night of the real thing. A new generation of Washington blues musicians is also beginning to wow crowds. Clarence Turner, Ed Scott, and guitarist Melanie Mason have been attracting attention lately, as has the band Bad Influence. Mason, Bad Influence, and Ray Kaminsky all shared the 2001 Washington Area Music Association Award, or Wammie, for best blues recording.

http://www.scaruffi.com/history/blues.html
A brief history of Blues Music
by Piero Scaruffi
An appendix to the The History of Rock Music Piero Scaruffi
The role of African music in the evolution of western music
Piero Scaruffi While we will never know for sure, it is likely that music originally developed (thousands and thousands of years ago) as a means to coordinate and synchronize collective human movement, such as for hunting or farming. Even today, it comes natural to start singing a rhythmic song to accompany the activity of a group of people, whether hiking in the mountains of building a roof.
Presumably, great singers held an important social status just like shamans or top hunters. Later, as percussion instruments developed to accompany music, individual percussionists may have also emerged. Then new kinds of instruments, not only percussive, emerged that further enabled virtuoso playing.
Sometimes during the evolution of civilizations, "solo music" was invented to admire and appreciate the music of the best singers and instrumentalists. It is likely that, initially, their performances were mainly for the aristocracy and were purely musical. At some point it came natural to merge solo music and solo poetry to entertain the aristocracy (and later the masses) with stories that people were familiar with. During the classic age of Greek theater, these stories became more abstract and metaphorical, and the music became less straightforward. Christianity further bent the purpose of music to sing the praise of the Lord and to call the faithful to prayer. Music, basically, became the vehicle for a message. The message (even when it was an epic) was not just a story, but a whole ideological system.

Without a permanent Seattle home, blues musicians split their time between five Ballard venues.
BY SUSAN WATERWORTH SEATTLE HAS A RICH blues tradition worthy of the same kind of treatment Paul De Barros gave jazz in his 1993 book Jackson Street After Hours: The Roots of Jazz in Seattle . Fans will remember the Jolly Roger and the Owl Cafe as Seattle's blues bastions during the 1980s and early '90s, but since they closed, there has been no single venue hosting blues on a nightly basis. There still isn't. The Owl's old neighborhood, however, is experiencing something of a blues renaissance four nights a week. Just in time for the onset of seasonal affective disorder, here's a guide to maneuvering through Ballard's emerging, house-rocking, down-in-the-alley blues scene:
