The endorsement in visual impairments entails a general course of study applicable to all special education endorsements, plus the four courses offered by this program that meet the professional competency requirements specific to visual impairment. Only the four vision courses will be offered through this program. Those seeking initial licensure with an endorsement in visual impairments (preK-12) will need to take the courses that meet the core special education competencies, to include a course in psycho-educational assessment, as stated in the Virginia Licensure Regulations for School Personnel. Those who hold a five-year renewable license in special education and are seeking an additional endorsement in visual impairments will be required to complete only the four courses for visual impairments offered through this program.
