Teachers Present at History Conference DPS Students Win at National History Day! Teachers Explore Philadelphia The Dayton and Miami Valley Teaching American History grants sponsored nine teachers under the direction of Dr. Julieanne Phillips, Dayton TAH Coordinator, to travel to historic sites in the Philadelphia area. Teachers followed in George Washington's footsteps at Valley Forge, spoke with "Thomas Jefferson" at the City Tavern in Philadelphia about the new document he was writing to declare the colonies' independence from Great Britain, and toured the Amish countryside of Lancaster, PA in a horse drawn carriage. They will write lesson plans based on their experience incorporating primary source documents, the Ohio Academic Content Standards, and the National History Day theme. Third Annual Spring Fling in Dayton The Teaching American History Project held its third annual Spring Fling on April 28th at the Dayton Aviation Heritage National Park Wright Cycle Complex. The Fling features new and engaging resources and approaches to teaching American history. Teachers learned "Revolution," a multiplayer role-playing game set during the American War for Independence, received standards-aligned curriculum and information for field trips, and toured the museum.
