I'm back from a fantastic week in Wyoming and Montana. I saw one life bird, Trumpeter Swan and many, such as Clark's Nutcracker, that I've only seen once or twice before. We didn't see any Grizzlies at Yellowstone, apparently this has been a good year for pine nuts and they are busy up in the mountains fattening up on nuts and Army Cutworm caterpillars (Spodoptera sp.).
On the birding front in Iraq I found a piece written by Major Ed Lowsma to a local Audubon Society in Florida describing some of his birding experiences.
I've been making my way through the wonderful Emirates Natural History Group website. This very active club from the UAE takes frequent trips around the Emirates and Oman. Special interest groups cover all manner of creatures to archeology and local history. It would be fantastic to have a similar group devoted to the natural history of Iraq.

93. Fish Point
Southwest spit of Pelee Island. Shallowsand, limestone plain. Sand spit and dune system with deciduous forest. birding. Nature reserve; no facilities. Natural features, facilities, location.
http://OntarioParks.com/english/fish.html
Skip over main navigation to content. Welcome Your Parks Parks Blog ... Feedback Natural Features Fish Point is a gently rolling, shallow-sand, limestone plain in the Great Lakes lowlands, with lacustrine nearshore features, including an excellent example of a sandspit and dune system extending south into Lake Erie. Its near-virgin, southern deciduous forest harbours several provincially rare plants, including the prickly pear cactus, and the hop tree. Rare animals include the fox snake, Lake Erie watersnake, and the giant swallowtail butterfly. Park Facilities and Activities Like the famous Point Pelee spit located nearby on the mainland, Fish Point is an important stopover for migrating birds, and a bird-watchers paradise. Black-crowned night herons and other birds frequent a lagoon, and shorebirds are numerous. Visitor facilities consist of one small parking lot.
Location: On the southwest spit of Pelee Island, twenty-five kilometres from the mainland. Passenger and vehicle ferries leave Kingsville or Leamington, on Lake Erie's north shore, at regular intervals. The crossing to Pelee Island takes about 75 minutes.
