THE CALOOSA BIRD CLUB The Caloosa Bird Club, founded in 1959, is a seasonal organization for our more northern "snowbirds" of the human persuasion. Many of our members make the Fort Myers, Florida area their winter home, migrating here to warmer climes during the fall and winter months and back north again with the spring. Our interest is the study of birds, including field identification, song, migration, population trends, food, behavior and habitat. There is also a "social" aspect to the club, where members renew old friendships and enjoy each other's company while focusing on their mutual interests of birds and birding. There is a general meeting at 2:00 PM every second Sunday during the months of November through March. On each Monday during the season, there is a scheduled field trip, usually ending with a picnic-style lunch. A few trips are to more distant birding sites such as St. Marks N.W.R. near Tallahassee or Everglades N.P. and these trips require an overnight or longer stay. At the end of each trip, a list of bird sightings and the number of participants is compiled for club records. On a Monday in December, usually in the latter part of the month, the club conducts the Fort Meyers area Christmas Bird Count for the National Audubon Society. The 2004 Fort Myers Christmas Bird Count was held on Monday, December 20, 2004 These results can be accessed

The Bird Club
Web Ring
Home Page
This Web Ring was started to bring avian related bird clubs together so we may all further expand and share our knowledge and love of the avian species. If you are a representative of a local or national bird club, we'd love for you to add your site to our webring. This ring is ONLY open to Bird Clubs. A webring is a number of sites linked together so each site in the ring can be visited, one after another. No matter where you start, you will eventually end up where you started. This is made possible by a short fragment of HTML code which each site owner pastes into his/her HTML page code. To Join The Bird Club Web Ring There are only a few requirements your bird club's site must meet to join the ring:
  • Your page must be family friendly. The links and graphics on your pages must all be working at the time of submission. Your pages must have an explanation of the purpose of your club.
If you would like to join The Bird Club Webring, click on the link in the ring banner below. That will take you to a form you will need to fill out. When the form is completed and submitted to the Queue, you will be emailed the code fragment to insert in your page code on your site, along with your site ID. You must also download the two graphics which go with the code. The graphics MUST be on your page (and in your directory), not linked to this one. If you experience problems using the HTML code you receive, please write to the WebRing Master Cynthia Kiesewetter After you have the code fragment in place on your page, send e-mail and I will activate your site in the ring. To preserve the ring integrity, you MUST have the code and graphics in place BEFORE being activated.

South Shore bird Club History Page. A brief summary of how the club began and evolved.
http://ssbirdclub.home.comcast.net/ssbchist.html
History of the South Shore Bird Club
The South Shore Bird Club (SSBC) was founded in 1946 by Don West, a Quincy teacher. The first members were from the Quincy-Wollaston area and they set out to explore the birds and birding habitats of the South Shore of Massachusetts. Over the years the club has grown to a membership of 135, most of whom come from the south of Boston and north of Cape Cod, although the club has members from other parts of Massachusetts, from nearby states and even from as far west as Montana. Field trips concentrate on southeastern Massachusetts (65-70% of all trips) but include trips through-out the state and to offshore waters, as well as occasional weekend trips to the Connecticut Lakes region of northern New Hampshire, Cape May, New Jersey, Block Island, Rhode Island and elsewhere. Most trips involve car-pooling with occasional canoe trips or beach hikes. Non-members are always welcome . A few adventurous SSBC members have organized trips for club members to Arizona, Texas, California, Florida, and to Trinidad and Tobago. SSBC activities are largely devoted to trips afield, but have not concentrated on the single-minded chase for rarities. The club Recorder does prepare a list of the total species seen each year, by species and by trip, and this 50-year record now documents both declines (Least Flycatcher and Cliff Swallow, for instance) and increases (Tufted Titmouse, and House Finch are obvious changes). Three "May Days" each year are the only trips devoted solely to running up big totals. Warren Harrington's annual early May trip to Essex County is only for those who are willing to start early and run late. Bob Fox organizes another May Day the third week of the month rivals Warren's in energy expended and Patti O'Neil has yet another billed as "
