" "I sent you the same amount the vet charged me yesterday; you have done no less than he did for my bird. You are a real blessing to all of us canary lovers the world over." "I ordered "Canary Tales" by Linda Hogan last year... Although I fully recommend buying the book, I find Robirda's book much more complete, easier to read with less difficulty finding information." "Your information is definitely needed! I've had canaries for several years and bred them several times...but you've taught me more than I ever knew!" "I just want to let you know, that my little Pretty is enjoying your CD. I play it every morning for him. Thank You so much for helping all of us with our little birdie friends."

Stanton bird Club, Lewiston, Maine. Meetings and field trips open to the public.Check our list of local birding hotspots.
http://www.avcnet.org/stanton/
The Stanton Bird Club was founded in 1919 and named in honor of Dr. Jonathan Y. Stanton, a professor at Bates College in Lewiston. Over the years, a number of parcels of land were donated to the Club. These donations eventually grew to encompass some 310 acres, known as the Thorncrag Bird Sanctuary , in the heart of Lewiston, Maine's second largest city.
The Club is made up of people from a wide range of ages and backgrounds, but they all share a love of nature in general, and birds in particular. Today there are some 200 club members, including about 40 Junior Naturalists . A Board of Directors oversees the Club's finances and activities, both of which have grown tremendously in the last decade.
Although almost all of the Stanton Bird Club's activities are free of charge, membership is encouraged because dues help finance the educational programs of the Junior Naturalists, as well as help fund stewardship programs at Thorncrag and the Club's two other sanctuaries. Anyone interested in a membership brochure can e-mail membership chairperson, Kathy Lawrence.

http://www.avcnet.org/stanton/thorncrg.htm
The Stanton Bird Club has been actively engaged in conservation work in the Androscoggin County area for over 80 years. Thorncrag Bird Sanctuary in Lewiston, a 310 acre wildlife preserve, has been the primary focus of that activity through the years. At an elevation of 510 feet, the highest point in the city, this sanctuary sits as a green capstone, a forested oasis surrounded on three sides by urban and suburban development. The "Crag", belonging to the family Thorne in the 1800's, is a familiar and well loved landmark in Lewiston. The human use of this land over the decades has been as varied as the habitats and wildlife it has always protected. Uses have included: recreation and scientific research by Bates College, a sheep and dairy farm, tuberculosis sanitorium, homestead for the reclusive Elder Thorne, and facility for Highland Spring Bottled Water Company. Today, a revitalized Thorncrag serves as the springboard for several community outreach programs, and as a significant regional site for wildlife habitat enhancement demonstrations and forestry practices. Since 1986 a dedicated corps of volunteers has been working to restore Thorncrag as a safe and educational resource for the area. Our earliest and strongest alliances were with the Cooperative Extension and the Soil and Water Conservation District. Through these agencies we reconstructed all the trails, installed erosion control devices, developed a very comprehensive Master Plan, assessed our wetlands, established an environmental education outreach program, and brought the community to a better understanding of the importance of conservation.

  • The Cayuga Bird Club web site is now the home of the Cayuga Lake Basin First Records lists! To see what species have already been seen in our area this year, visit the 2005 list, prepared by Michael Andersen. In order to learn when various species can be expected to arrive during spring migration, visit the 1999-2004 Spring Arrivals list, prepared by Matthew Medler, and the 1903-1993 Spring Arrivals list, prepared by Charles R. Smith. Steve Kelling's shorebird migration chart can also be found at the First Records and Arrivals page.
  • The Loon Watch at Taughannock Falls State Park is an all-volunteer effort to count Common Loons as they migrate south down Cayuga Lake each fall. Under the tireless leadership of Bob Meade, Loon Watchers counted more than 80,000 loons during the first ten years of the count's existence.
  • Birdwatching Sites in the Cayuga Lake Basin contains descriptions of 13 area birding locales, including hot spots such as Sapsucker Woods, Summer Hill, and Myers Point. Written by Matthew Medler, these site summaries not only provide information on when and where to find birds in the Cayuga Lake Basin, they also contain links to over 160 species accounts expertly prepared by Kevin McGowan for the Cornell Lab of Ornithology's "All About Birds" web site.

Tri-State Bird Club
An Open Invitation to Join Tri-State Bird Club
C an you imagine a club designed especially to share your interest in exotic birds? Well, that is exactly why Tri-State Bird Club was organized! Founded in 1988 by Bud and Marilyn Steere and Jim Hill, 16 fellow bird-lovers gathered in the Handley Library in Winchester, VA to organize what was to become known as Tri-State Bird Club. Meeting in members' homes was interesting and helped form closeness, but we soon grew too large and moved our meetings to our present home at Blandy Farm, the Virginia State Arboretum. This is where we still meet today on the second Sunday of each month at 2:00 p.m.
Sharing our love of Exotic Birds is why Tri-State was formed
O ur first Bird Mart was held on April 16, 1989 at the Winchester War Memorial building. We realized at this point the interest in exotic birds was great as we filled the room all day. Two years later we had grown so large that we moved our Bird Mart to our present location of the Winchester National Guard Armory. Tri-State Bird Club has a fine cadre of hard workers who extend themselves on behalf of their clubmates. There is a good spirit among Club members. The divisiveness of politics' rarely appears, and for persons looking for an organization to benefit the birds by providing timely information and support Tri-State Bird Club is it!
