The Life Of Kylie SKIP TO KYLIE CHRONOLOGY
Those who have ever met her comment that barefoot she stands only a little over five feet. That maybe true, but far more important is the fact that Kylie at thirty-four has enjoyed a career to date of truly phenomenal proportions. Indeed, today she holds a position in the music world rarely seen. With fifteen years behind her as a significant recording artist and more than twenty as an accomplished actress, perhaps she now considers herself as being in the enviable position to compete both commercially and critically with every one of her musical peers, both male and female. She is the comeback queen who never went anywhere, through her own desire to progress, improve and reinvent, she has made herself irreplaceable. But at the same time, she remains untainted and as fresh as the day she first stepped into the spotlight, but now with more drive and ambition than ever before. To date she has released eight studio albums, six long-play videos, greatest hits and live packages, a multitude of other hits and remix compilations, and thirty-nine hit singles throughout the world, many of which are today correctly regarded as pop classics. One of her most recent

ELIZABETH I (1558-1603)
Queen Elizabeth I, engraving from Christian Prayers Mary Evans Picture Library No one in 1558, any more than in 1485, would have predicted that despite the social discord, political floundering, and international humiliation of the past decade, the kingdom again stood on the threshold of an extraordinary reign. To make matters worse the new monarch was the wrong sex. Englishmen knew that it was unholy and unnatural that "a woman should reign and have empire above men." At 25, however, Elizabeth was better prepared than most women to have empire over men. She had survived the palace revolutions of her brother's reign and the Roman Catholicism of her sister's; she was the product of a fine Renaissance education, and she had learned the need for strong secular leadership devoid of religious bigotry. Moreover, she possessed her father's magnetism without his egotism or ruthlessness. She was also her mother's daughter, and the offspring of Anne Boleyn had no choice but to reestablish the royal supremacy and once again sever the ties with Rome.

Renaissance tool man
By Frank Wicks
A ll the manufactured products that provide us with basic necessities, comfort, and luxury result from the inspiration of inventors and designers. They are also made possible by the great achievements of the engineers who have developed the machine tools operating in the factories that finally convert ideas into affordable finished products. James Hartness with the flat turret lathe, which he developed at Jones and Lamson, when he was a supervisor making just a few dollars a week. He took in $1,000 a day in royalties after the machine hit the market. The lathe combined multiple task capability with higher precision and longer cuts. A distinguishing characteristic of humans among all other species is a sophistication in the making and use of tools. As our species evolved, we became increasingly dependent upon specialized tools for hunting, agriculture, and building. A parallel advance was the development of tools that were used to make tools. The stone that shaped an arrowhead has advanced to modern machine tools. James Hartness helped make that happen. Hartness, who started his working life as an apprentice machinist, became a major inventor of improved machine tools and measuring techniques. He also became a company president, an ASME president, and a governor of Vermont. He made pioneering contributions in the fields of astronomy and aviation, and mentored and inspired others.

300 years of Spanish Presence BIOGRAPHY The Vespuccis, in one way or the other were always linked to the Medicis and even when the powerful family split into "Oligarcas" (Oligarchies) and "Popolanos" (populists) there were Vespuccis on either side. Giuliano de Medici, younger brother of Lorenzo passionately loved Simonetta, the wife of Marco Vespucci and a niece of Simonetta, Semiramide married Lorenzo di Pier Francesco de Medici. Giorgio Antonio Vespucci, his uncle, a man of vast culture, friend of humanist, poets cosmographers, painters and Lorenzo the Magnificent, was charged with Amerigo education. This education he shared with Piero Soderini. Through his wise uncle, Amerigo became familiar with Marsilio Ficino, Pulci, Poliziano, high representatives of thought and literary arts of Florence, with Toscanelli, a doctor and cosmographer, Chirlandaio, who painted the adolecent Amerigo next to Giorgio Antonio. A neigbour from Todos Los Santos, Filipepi, better known as Botticelli, who apart from imortalizing Simonetta in the canvases of "La Primavera (Spring)" and "El Nacimiento de Venus(The Birth of Venus)", painted a portrait of young Vespucci. When the beautiful Simonetta died prematurely, Leonardo de Vinci did a drawing of her face, we can deduce then that Amerigo had contact with the genius. It is also possible that he had contact with Michelangelo who at that time was woking in the studio of Chirlandaio and Botticelli.

http://www.prca.org/books/portraits/orange.htm
Chapter 34 William III of Orange: Warrior of the Faith
Introduction There was a time in the history of the church of our Lord Jesus Christ when the fortunes of the church in the Netherlands were inextricably tied to fortunes of the church in Great Britain. This was the time of William III of the House of Orange. The times were extremely perilous for countries which had become Calvinistic. Through the efforts of the Roman Catholic counter-reformation, the Protestant Reformation had not only been stopped in its tracks, but the Roman Catholics had once again taken the offensive in Europe. Spain had always been firmly on the side of the Romish Church; France, by slaughtering the Hugenots and forcing the faithful to escape torture and death by seeking refuge in other countries, had become an ally of the papacy in the battle against Protestantism; the Roman Catholic party was still strong in the British Isles, and God's people were well acquainted with suffering and death for Christ's sake. Rome's servants were ready to launch powerful armies to subdue Protestant kingdoms and force Europe once again to bow before the papal throne. Even in the Netherlands, that bulwark of the Reformed faith, there were those who, weary of war, sought compromise with the enemy. The one man whom God used to thwart these papal purposes was William III of the house of Orange, Stadholder in Holland. His story is an intriguing one, though no less intriguing than the man himself. His impenetrable reserve made him something of a mystery even to his closest associates.

Prosecutor William Boyce said Diana's mother and sister will testify during the six-week trial that Burrell, 44, had no right to these things. But he did have access: he lived in Kensington Palace for 10 months after her death and helped compile an inventory for her estate. A palace policeman once saw Burrell pull up his station wagon at 3:30 a.m. and load it with a large wooden box and two evening dresses wrapped in plastic. When challenged by the bobby, Burrell said he was removing items Diana's family wanted him to destroy, and was doing so at this hour to be discreet. Boyce said the family will rebut this. He reminded the jury that photo albums of the young princes or Diana's dresses could buy the person who presented them to Sotheby's a comfortable retirement.
Burrell, whose final service to Diana after 10 tumultuous years as butler and close confidant was to dress her body for her funeral, denies that any of the items was stolen and gave police a clutch of reasons for possessing them. He said some were given to him by Diana; some she asked him to get rid of but he could not bear to; some he rescued from the trash or was keeping safe because he feared Diana's family would not preserve them properly; some he felt were not appropriate for the charity shops she had designated; some he intended to return but could not "because my memories of the death of the Princess were still much too raw."

W elcome to the European Royal History Web site! We are dedicated to the distribution and publication of articles and materials on Europe's royal families. We are taking advantage of the endless opportunities allowed to us by the internet to disseminate our knowledge on royalty and royalty-related topics. This web site is intended to be an historian's paradise. As supporters of monarchy, the creators of www.eurohistory.com felt frustrated by not being able to obtain most of the information we wanted on many of Europe's royal families. We were tired with excessive coverage of some royals, and not enough of others. This frustration convinced us that there was a need, a demand in fact, for a web site dedicated exclusively to the history of Royal Europe. The motive behind this web site is, therefore, the publication of articles that combines biographical information on many European royals with their role in major political events of the last two centuries. History teaches us that economics and politics play an overwhelming role in shaping the present and future. That is not in question. Yet we feel that history cannot have been written without the presence of certain people and their role in shaping events. As there are endless sources of information dedicated to the English royal family, The European Royal History Web Page is going to focus mainly on Europe's continental royals. We feel a deep attraction to the royal dynasties of Romanov, Habsburg, Hohenzollern, Wittelsbach, Bourbon and Saxe-Coburg-Gotha. This is not to sat that other, less researched dynasties, will not be covered in the future. We do encourage visitors/readers of this web page to send us suggestions about topics you would like us to cover.

Eleanor of Aquitaine was the consort of Louis VII of France, then of Henry II of England, and two of her sons (Richard and John) went on to become kings of England. Her first marriage was annulled in 1152 and she married Henry, then duke of Normandy. They each brought land and power to the marriage, but she threatened Henry's power and even urged three sons into an unsuccessful revolt in 1173. Henry stuck Eleanor in prison for fifteen years, but in 1189 she helped her son Richard ("The Lion-Hearted") to the throne, and for many years ruled in his absence. Katharine Hepburn won an Oscar for playing Eleanor in the 1968 movie The Lion In Winter , opposite Peter O'Toole as Henry II.

Belgium's royal sex scandal

The scandal surrounding King Albert (left) has rocked the royal family
By Oana Lungescu in Brussels Revelations that Belgium's King Albert II may have a 31-year-old illegitimate daughter have created a stir - but more because of the intrusion into the royal family's life by the typically-discreet media, than the king's alleged adultery. "This is an earthquake for the royalty. For the first time in our history, the Belgian media have looked through the keyhole of the royal palace," wrote one newspaper editor, almost apologising for the three pages of detailed articles on the allegations. The author of the biography is an 18-year-old schoolboy A spokeswoman for the royal palace declined to comment on what she called "malevolent gossip". Another newspaper defended its own break with the tradition of discretion by pointing the finger at the extensive television coverage given to the story. The paper then proceeded to reveal the address of the king's alleged illegitimate daughter, Delphine Boel, an artist living in London's Portobello Road.

Royal Genealogy
Introduction
W elcome to RoyaList Online, a guide to the royal genealogy of Britain. As its name suggests, the core of the web site is a "royal list": a database that provides biographical details of thousands of individuals who have either belonged to, or been connected with, the royal family of England and Scotland during more than 1,000 years of history. A lthough the primary focus is on British royalty, the web of intermarriages amongst the royal houses of Europe is such that many representatives of continental royalty are also featured. The intention has been to include all known members of the immediate family of those who are either in or close to the English and Scottish royal lines. The further an individual is from a royal line, the less likely it is that his or her immediate family will be included.
Historical Sources
R oyaList Online is intended as a general reference for those interested in royal genealogy, rather than as a specialist tool, and the vast majority of the information provided has therefore been drawn from secondary sources, such as royal biographies, rather than from original research. Often, different sources disagree on a given subject, and in these instances we have tried to use whichever one appears to be most authoritative and reliable, although where this is difficult to judge we have simply chosen whichever interpretation seemed most likely.

(13) Light in Europe BKS Iyengar had now had the opportunity to visit Europe. He had met many dignitaries, formed extremely close relationships with a few of them, and been able to give them the benefit of his many deep and intensive years of practice and reflection. But if that had been his sole achievement, the story of Iyengar yoga would have ended right there and then. People like Menuhin and Queen Elisabeth of Belgium would have died with fond memories of their private yoga teacher and the rest of the world would have been none the wiser.
It is indeed arguable that over his lifetime BKS Iyengar has done more than any other person to spread the word about the practice and benefits of yoga. This begs the two questions 'Why?', and 'How?'. Iyengar has been able to do this because of his pedagogical approach i.e. his theory and practice of teaching.
As the profile of such activities as yoga and meditation grew, so also did the name of Iyengar. The reason was simple. Iyengar was offering to ordinary people exactly the same commodity he was offering to the entitled and the rich and famous: an opportunity to grow in spirit and to gain satisfaction in life by applying the deceptively simple techniques he had gleaned through years of dedicated study. All over Europe the word spread about the magic that BKS Iyengar could weave by no more than getting people to move their fingers and toes. And from all corners of the continent they flocked to him.

John Hancock
John Hancock The events leading to the declaration of independence, which have been rapidly passed in review, in the preceding pages, have brought us to the more particular notice of those distinguished men, who signed their names to that instrument, and thus identified themselves with the glory of this American republic.
If the world has seldom witnessed a train of events of a more novel and interesting character, than those which led to the declaration of American independence, it has, perhaps, never seen a body of men, placed in a more difficult and responsible situation, than were the signers of that instrument. And certainly, the world has never witnessed a more brilliant exhibition of political wisdom, or a brighter example of firmness and courage.
The first instant the American colonies gave promise of future importance and respectability, the jealousy of Great Britain was excited, and the counsels of her statesmen were employed to keep them in humble subjection. This was the object, when royalty grasped at their charters; when restrictions were laid upon their commerce and manufactures; when, by taxation, their resources were attempted to be withdrawn, and the doctrine inculcated, that it was rebellion for them to think and act for themselves.
It was fortunate for the Americans, that they understood their own rights, and had the courage to assert them. But even at the time of the declaration of independence, just ash was the cause of the colonies, it was doubtful how the contests would terminate. The chance of eventual success was against them. Less than three millions of people constituted their population, and these were scattered over a widely extended territory. They were divided into colonies, which had no political character, and no other bond of union than common sufferings, common danger, and common necessities. They had no veteran army, no navy, no arsenals filled with the munitions of war, and no fortifications on their extended coast. They had no overflowing treasuries; but in the outset, were to depend upon loans, taxation, and voluntary contributions.

Jenny Lind, born in Stockholm, is considered to be one of the most gifted sopranos of international stature of her time and perhaps ever since. In 1840, she was appointed member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Music and official singer of the Swedish Court. Throughout her career, she was known for her generous philanthropic support of cultural and humanitarian causes. After an unhappy study period in Paris, she started in 1843 an extensive and highly successful tour of Europe. It took her through Copenhagen, Berlin, Vienna, London and many other places. The Stockholm opera saw her for the last time in 1848. She was treasured by royalty, from King Oscar I of Sweden and Norway and King Frederick William IV of Prussia, to Queen Victoria of Great Britain. Hans Christian Andersen fell in love with her, but she did not share his feelings. Among other stories, he wrote his famous story
