National Boy Scout Uniforms: Oceania
Figure 1.. The Scouting movement has traditionally been the stronest un Europe, but it is now growing in Asia and Oceania as well. Much of the frowth of the Scout movement in recent years has in fact been in developing countries. It is the strongest in the Oceania countries that were European countries such as Australia and New Zealand. There is also a sizeable movement in the Philippines because of its American connections. The British also promoted Scout movements on several Pacific island colonies. Please have a look at available information on Scouting in the following countries and the development of the various national uniforms in each different country.
Australia
Scouting in Australia commenced shortly after Scouting for Boys was published in 1908, the same year it began in Britain. As with all countries in the then British Empire, initially Scouting in Australia was very closely based on the way Scouting was structured in Britain. Baden Powell visited Australia in 1912 to help promote the local Scouting movement. As in all British colonies and dominions, it proved imensly popular. The original uniforms were simple copies of English Scout uniforms. As time went by an Australian flavor of Scouting developed. Those changes were eventually reflected in the Scout uniform.
Indonesia
New Zealand
New Zealand as other British Empire countries eagerly adopted Scouting after it appeared in England. Scouting has traditionally been a popular activity for Kiwi boys. Early uniforms were just like the British ones. Only later did a destinct uniform develop.

The Linnaeus Apostles -
Their thirst for knowledge drove them to explore unknown regions and continents, a passion that was only matched by that of Carl Linnaeus, their mentor and teacher. Their collections and notes are still respected and referred to by ethnographers and natural history scientists. These brave pioneers were the most adventurous and respected scientists of the 18th century, some became household names. Collectively they were known as the Linnaeus apostles.
These latter day trail-blazers, criss-crossed the known and unknown world to discover, describe, collect and document the cultures and natural history they found. They travelled with Royal expeditions, trading companies and whalers, they also joined voyages of discovery and sailed with such men as James Cook and José de Iturriaga.
The various journeys of the Linnaeus Apostles gave them the opportunity to study the natural history and cultures of the known and unknown world.

... CONTACT Paul Edward Theroux was born on April 10, 1941 in Medford, Massachusetts. The son of a French-Canadian father and an Italian mother, Theroux was one of seven children. Never much of an athlete, Theroux spent most of the 1950's reading. He never admitted, even to himself, his desire to be a writer and studied premed in college. Writing, he believed to be "incompatible with being a manmoney is masculinity". Theroux, who grew up a Boy Scout and a Catholic, graduated high school in 1959 and left Medford "the first chance I had". He attended the University of Maine where he wrote many anti-Vietnam war editorials and refused to join the required Reserved Officers Training Corps. He transferred to the University of Massachusetts and took a creative writing course from the poet Joseph Langland. That desision changed the way Theroux would perceive writing as a career. Theroux graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1963. At Syracuse University, Theroux trained for the Peace Corps and then lectured for a short while at the University of Urbino in Italy. Next he was sent to Malawi, Africa (then called the Nyasaland Protectorate, under British rule) where he taught at Soche Hill College and wrote sentimental articles for Christian Science Monitor. He also wrote articles for Playboy, Esquire, and Atlantic Monthly. He won the Playboy Editorial Award for Best Story four times. (In '72, '76, '77, and '79.) In 1964

of Nepal Background:
The landlocked multiethnic, multilingual, multi-religious Kingdom of Nepal is situated north of India in the Himalaya, at the border where the Indian subcontinent has crashed into Asia some years ago. Because of that accident, in Nepal are the world's highest mountains including Sagarmatha (Chomolungma in Tibetan), the Mt. Everest; 8848m) towering above populated valleys and forested plains.
Nepal can be divided broadly into three ecological zones: the lowland, the midland and the highland.

92. A Bibliography Of Australian Literary Responses To Asia
We have used five inclusive designations asia, North East asia, Others, likeJohn Bennett in his poem Edo Errata The Royal Academy (found poem)
http://www.lib.flinders.edu.au/pub/series/2/introduction.html
Introduction
This bibliography records Australian literary responses to Asia in poetry, short-stories, novels and plays, from the beginnings of the colony to 1995, and forms the basis for an on-going bibliographic study. Oral and visual narratives depicting indigenous pre-1788 perceptions of Asia are beyond the province of this investigation, however the work of contemporary Aboriginal writers is included. Entries are restricted to writings in English. Translations from languages other than English and writing in other generic modes (like diaries, biography, life-writing, travel narratives, ethnographies and criticism) represent further research potential. The data has been gathered from many sources but the AustLit data base from the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology Library [INFORMIT] in association with the Australian Defence Forces Academy Library and Alison Broinowski's seminal study of Australian artistic impressions of Asia, The Yellow Lady, were particularly useful. Beyond these resources, entries were gathered from journals, poetry anthologies and short story collections held in private and library collections. The material is itemised by country or attributed to appropriate geographic areas. We have used five inclusive designations: Asia, North East Asia, South East Asia, South Asia and Papua New Guinea, but we acknowledge the arbitrary nature of such ordering. Our listings of distinctive cultures, within the region collectively referred to as 'Asia', have been made with the understanding that 'Asia' is not a single entity, except in the eyes of single-minded observers. Australian writing has not always reflected this discrimination but the bibliography indicates increasing authorial sensitivity to these issues. Occasionally, texts are cross-listed when protagonists 'will not stay in place' or when authors employ comparative techniques. In two instances there is a separate category for commemorative anthologies.

WAHVM Congress, Yokohama, Japan, 8 September 1995
Welcome speech by president of wahvm at the opening of the session on the history of veterinary medicine
Mr. Chairman, dear colleagues, Before giving my paper I would like to say a few words in my capacity of president of the World Association for the History of Veterinary Medicine (WAHVM). The programming of today's and tomorrow's sessions is the outcome of close cooperation between dr. Katsuyama and myself during the last year. In this work we were assisted very professionally by the secretariat of the Scientific Committee of WVC 95, headed by dr. Y. Ozawa. The programming of today's Free Communication Session was the prime responsability of the Japanese Society of Veterinary History, whereas the symposium of tomorrow is to be considered as an activity of the World Association. After the WAHVM (established in 1969) became an affiliated member of the WVA in 1979, history sessions were introduced in the programmes of the world congresses. So, after the congresses held in Moscow (1979), Perth (1983), Montreal (1987), Rio de Janeiro (1991) this will be the fifth time that the field of veterinary history is represented in the program of a WVC. In the years between the world congresses, the WAHVM organizes a congress of its own; the last one, being the 27th in the series, was held in Kopenhagen in 1994 and the next one will be held in Vienna in 1996.
