45. KITLV - Concise Annual Report 2002
KITLV KITLV/Royal Netherlands Institute of Southeast asian and Caribbean and periodicals about South-East asia and oceania, Indonesia in particular,
http://www.kitlv.nl/annual2002.html
Highlights from Annual Report 2002
The aim of the Royal Institute for Linguistics and Anthropology is to collect and make accessible books and other documents, to undertake and to stimulate research, and facilitate the publication of books and periodicals about South-East Asia and Oceania, Indonesia in particular, and the Caribbean Area in the Social Sciences and Humanities. The headquarters of the Institute are in Leiden with an office in Jakarta. Introduction
The last months of the year 2002 brought tragic news that was also received with dismay by the KITLV. On 6 October, HRH Prince Claus of the Netherlands, esteemed patron of the Royal Institute of Linguistics and Anthropology (KITLV), died. On 12 October 2002, the world was shocked by a terrorist attack on Bali, which at once not only ended many lives and was a blow to the local and national economy, but also caused Southeast Asia, and in particular Indonesia, to be placed high on the agenda of discussions about fundamentalism, as well as terrorism, in the world of Islam. The start, in November of this year, of the KITLV’s new research programme on the political developments of present-day Indonesia is a wry coincidence. The “Bali bombings” and reactions to it do, however, underline the great relevance of this new line of research.

A Research Guide

Getting Started
Information on women throughout the world is abundantly available in the Morris Library. This select bibliography can be used to identify books, newspaper and periodical articles, encyclopedia entries and online information. A few good starting points are:
DELCAT
LOCATION: Library Databases
DELCAT, the online catalog for the University of Delaware Library, may be used to find books and other materials in the library's collection. Items can be searched by author, title, or subject keywords. A keyword anywhere search, using significant words that pertain to your topic, may also retrieve appropriate materials, e.g. women and islam*. ("*" is used for truncation.) DELCAT will also list the titles of journals which the library owns, although it will not provide you with information on specific articles within the journals. To identify periodical articles, consult a periodical index. Several indexes are described below.
Expanded Academic ASAP Plus
LOCATION: Library Databases
An online periodical index that contains references to scholarly and general interest periodicals published from 1980 to the present in a wide variety of disciplines. Also included is the full text of many articles.

LEARN Directory] LEARN History This is a selective guide to general sources for students of international history. It is aimed particularly at History Department staff and graduate students but will also be useful for students at a lower level. Click here for a similar guide to New Zealand History. For most types of sources there are many more items than listed here, particularly sources which focus on narrower subject areas. The general aim is therefore to offer a sufficient number and variety of pointers to suggest the wealth of resources available rather than attempt to be comprehensive. There is much overlap between the various types of resource. [Indexes and abstracts] [Terminology] [Handbooks and research guides] [Dictionaries and encyclopedias] ... [Manuscripts and archives]

The first two sources are specifically oriented to history and are in printed form. Both cover monographs, journal articles and dissertations and include brief abstracts. There are subject and author indexes.
