New book search (click here) Review Summary of Out of Africa by author Isak Dinesen Karen Blixen, writing under the pen name Isak Dinesen, recounts her attempts to run a coffee plantation in Kenya in the years before and after the First World War. Dinesen relates how she developed friendships with her native staff and with fellow Europeans arriving in Africa. Dinesen entertains native chiefs and European royalty at her farm. She also hunts and attempts to maintain some of her European ways while trying to adopt to her new home. Dinesen must fight against poverty and natural disasters to keep her farm. The threat of failure and the necessity of moving back to Europe haunt Dinesen as she hunts, takes walks, and acts as a doctor and consultant for her squatters.

    CHAPTER LXXX
    LITERARY PROJECTS
Saturday: Keeping the Sabbath. Sunday: Papa has yielded the advance and everybody is hard at work. The shipyard is so crowded that the men hinder each other; everybody hurrying or being hurried; the rush and confusion and shouting and wrangling are astonishing to our family, who have always been used to a quiet, country life. It was from this germ that in a later day grew the diaries of Adam and Eve, though nothing very satisfactory ever came of this preliminary attempt. The author had faith in it, however. To Bliss he wrote: Clemens was pleased enough with the contract when it was made. To Orion he wrote July 15 (1870): The work so promptly begun made little progress. Hard days of illness and sorrow followed, and it was not until September that it was really under way. His natural enthusiasm over any new undertaking possessed him. On the 4th he wrote Bliss: The new book was to be adventures in the diamond mines of South Africa, then newly opened and of wide public interest. Clemens did not propose to visit the mines himself, but to let another man do the traveling, make the notes, and write or tell him the story, after which Clemens would enlarge and elaborate it in his own fashion. His adaptation of the letters of Professor Ford, a year earlier, had convinced him that his plan would work out successfully on a larger scale; he fixed upon his old friend, J. H. Riley, of Washington (earlier of San Francisco), as the proper person to do the traveling. At the end of November he wrote Bliss:

      Comparison with other publications
This page is devoted to analysis of how styles are used, or not used, by other publications in some way comparable to Wikipedia. The publications of main interest are reference and journalistic sources. It is helpful to look at both styles and other honorifics to give some context of usage. As a rule there seems to be a continuum among publications between using no honorifics at all, using some honorifics but not styles, and using all honorifics including styles. But in certain cases honorifics and styles may be used according to some other pattern, or selectively only for certain persons. Press releases, web sites, and in-house publications by parties interested in a figure who might be addressed with a style are outside the scope of this investigation. As a rule, followers and subordinates of a styled individual indeed use their style; but those sources are, by definition, not Neutral Point of View . Also, journalistic or academic sources may directly quote individuals who use styles, but those direct quotes are not particularly reflective of editorial policy at the quoting publication. In corner cases, the willingness or unwillingness of a publication to include styles within direct quotes might be illustrative, however.

    http://www.isaachayes.com/bio/bio-2.html
Prologue In the spring 2003, one year after his induction into the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame and a celebrated move back home to Memphis, the public persona of Isaac Hayes is surging forward with a momentum usually associated with teen popstars and visiting royalty. In fact, Hayes is resident royalty for more than a decade, a coronated King of the Ada coastal district of Ghana in western Africa where he is a member of the Royal Family. Instead of a palace, he built an 8,000 square foot educational facility through his Isaac Hayes Foundation (IHF). He is most certainly the only King on earth with an Oscar, Grammy awards, #1 gold records, his voice on an animated tv series, a radio show, two restaurants, a best-selling cookbook, and top secret barbecue sauces.
In Memphis, his five-hour nightly radio shift on WRBO Soul Classics 103.5 FM is still the #1-rated show in town in its third year on the air. The city has taken to a new slogan: "Memphis: Home of the Blues, Birthplace Of Rock 'n Roll," underscored by the Smithsonian's Memphis Rock 'n Soul Museum just off Beale Street, the institution's first permanent exhibition outside Washington, DC, and New York. On May 2nd, Hayes presided over the opening day ceremonies of Soulsville, the Stax Museum of American Soul Music, a $20 million redevelopment project. It is located at a legendary address, 926 East McLemore Avenue, the revitalized original site of the record company where Hayes got his start in 1962. He has also been an integral fundraiser (and consciousness raiser) on behalf of the Stax Music Academy next door, a facility where he and others will develop and teach future Memphis musicians.
