Unfortunately, people still use her story to impose these same trials on women today. Her bravery, courage and leadership skills have been twisted or even negated to imposes ungodly restrictions on Godly women. Let's look at exactly what the Bible says about Abigail, and notice some of the things it doesn't say. 1 Samuel 25:1-3:
There was a man in Maon, whose property was in Carmel. The man was very rich; he had three thousand sheep and a thousand goats. He was shearing his sheep in Carmel. Now the name of the man was Nabal, and the name of his wife Abigail. The woman was clever and beautiful, but the man was surly and mean; he was a Calebite. The Bible introduces us to Abigail and her husband. Hebrew readers have a clue to this story in the first section that English readers lack (unless we read footnotes). There is tremendous value in recognizing our heritage and upon whose shoulders we stand today. Those who have gone before now comprise that great cloud of witnesses cheering us on to finish this great race spanning many centuries (Heb. 12:1). This Bible/church history chart requires web browsers with Java support enabled Pick a screen resolution format that works best for your monitor. For best results, maximize the amount of window space available for this chart by: disabling the toolbars in your web browser and setting your Windows taskbar to auto-hide. The timeline is best used when you select one button at a time (e.g. Paul, Peter or Church History 1, etc.) - otherwise the timeline can become too crowded. Note the entire span is 2000 B.C. to 2000 A.D. Viewing smaller sections of time is highly recommended.

"Theophostic Ministry" — from theos (God) and phos (light) — is the term coined by Dr. Ed Smith for a ministry approach that, he believes, God revealed to him following years of less-than-successful counseling of people traumatized by past events. Theophostic operates under the premise that "all of us are emotionally wounded and need our hearts and minds healed by Jesus" ( Genuine Recovery, p. 1).
