When they go up against the better-financed programs abroad, however, the situation changes radically . "I'm still improving," Wooley says. "I can be in the top 10. I'm world class. The Regimental sports programme is as busy now as it has ever been. The Regiment plays a wide array of sports throughout the year, from mainstream team and individual sports such as rugby, football and hockey, to more diverse sports such as judo, volleyball and waterpolo. The foundation for all the sports begins at squadron level. Inter-squadron competitions are used to focus training within the Regiment and identify any talent for a particular sport. Competitions at British Army (Germany) and Garrison level then provide an opportunity for the Regimental teams to play high-level competitive sport. The Commanding Officer has chosen 4 sports for the Regiment to concentrate on in order to achieve Army level success. Volleyball Each year the Squadrons compete for the Inter Squadron Competition known as the “Biela Plate”. This year the competition was held on Mon 08 November and provided a skilful display of volleyball from all competitors. C Squadron emerged victorious, defeating HQ Squadron in the final. ISSF EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE DECISIONS
The ISSF Executive Committee met in Madrid, Spain on 17 May 2003.
The Committee agenda included the usual membership matters, doping test reports and reports on 2003 World Cups.
World Cup Final 2003 shotgun in Rome
The Executive Committee designated the organization of the World Cup Final in Shotgun to the Italian Clay Target Federation, which is planning to organize the final in Rome on new shotgun ranges there, from 15 to 19 October 2003. The Executive Committee expressed its sincere appreciation to the Italian Federation, FITAV, for accepting the responsibility of organizing this World Cup Final on extremely short notice after the German Shooting Federation withdrew as the organizer.
The Committee also approved the change of the Running Target World Cup from Guatemala to Suhl, Germany because the Guatemala government was unable to issue visas to all ISSF member federations.
World Cup Locations for 2004
World Cup locations for the year 2004 were designated. Sidney, Australia and Athens, Greece will have full World Cups with all rifle, pistol and shotgun events. Rifle and pistol World Cups also will be organized in Bangkok, Thailand and Milan, Italy. Shotgun World Cups will be held in Cairo, Egypt and Americana, Brazil.

The unique format of penalizing skiers for their misses on the shooting range often leads to dramatic races. This year's world championships could produce some new faces in the biathlon elite. The women's field is wide-open with Sweden's Magdalena Forsberg retired and Norway's Liv Grete Poiree out with a newborn baby. The men's favorite has to be Norway's Ole Einar Bjoerndalen, who won four golds in Salt Lake City.

Surprise! NBC Discovers Biathlon At the 2002 Winter Olympics by Joseph P. Tartaro
Executive Editor
Over more than 20 years as editor of Gun Week I have had occasion every four years or so to excoriate American sports reporters in general, and television in particular, for its failure to reasonably report on the shooting sports, especially during the Olympics. Then the Olympic schedule changed; the Winter and Summer Games were staggered so that while they each take place every four years, they were staggered so that the TV networks that bid so much money for exclusive broadcast rights would have some kind of Olympic sports programming every two years.
Of course, that change gave me an opportunity to whip them for their failings regarding shooting sports every two years instead of four. And, while I was preparing to do so again for the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City, the National Broadcasting Company (NBC) suddenly surprised me.
Print Reporters
On Feb. 14, The Buffalo News ran an interesting article on the biathletes written by Bucky Gleason, who was covering the Winter Olympics from Utah. Gleason began his piece with an anecdote involving two of the US biathletes, Jeremy Teela and Hakkinen.
According to Gleason, last fall Teela and Hakkinen were walking through a metal detector in the Munich (Germany) airport when they triggered the alarm system.
