Bermuda
The islands of Bermuda have for decades been used as an offshore financial center by international companies (and individuals) originating from the United States of America thanks to the island’s close geographical proximity to North America. The islands are strategically situated in the North Atlantic some 1,000 miles (1,615km) northeast of Nassau in the Bahamas and 750 miles (1,250 km) southeast of New York. More recently, however, an increasing number of European and South East Asian entities have established companies in Bermuda, primarily to take advantage of its infrastructure and continuing political stability.
Isolated Archipelago
Bermuda is an isolated archipelago of 21 main islands and 160 islets located in the western Atlantic about 750 miles southeast of New York City and 3,445 miles from London. The Bermudas have a long history as a tax haven, and practitioners often refer to it as the “Cadillac” of the havens because it caters mainly to the rich and carriage trade Bermuda has the oldest parliamentary assembly in the western hemisphere (369) and the third oldest (behind Britain and the Isle of Man) in the world. Links with Royal England have been constitutionally preserved, and Bermuda today is the oldest self-governing British Crown Colony. With over 8,000 international exempted companies in her register, and the largest captive insurance market in the world, Bermuda is a celebrated tax haven. There is no form of corporate or personal income tax in Bermuda.

    Bermuda Police -

Bermuda Business The following sites may be of interest: Offshore Business Goldhaven Over the last two years, the company has exposed numerous frauds in the Bermuda-Caribbean region and has been mentioned in The Wall Street Journal, Business Week, Portfolio International, USA Today, the Miami Daily Business Review, BBC Radio, Bloomberg Business News Television and other publications and broadcasts. Inside Bermuda also revealed that Bermuda's former chief regulator had illegally allowed an insurer to discontinue from Bermuda and continue in Belgium even though it was insolvent. We also disclosed before any other publication that the Bermuda government had ordered the dismissal of the British Police Commissioner for no other reason than the fact that he had authorized an undercover police drugs operation that had implicated a government minister in possible drugs use. The following appears onthe Goldhaven site about 'Off shore Business': Update May 18, 1998 David Marchant is on a mission. His aim is to expose crime, fraud and financial abuses offshore to hopefully make it a safer place to do business and invest. He is not afraid of a fight and often invites litigation by publishing his often sensational and biting exposés about suspected wrong-doing in the Caribbean. Located in Miami, critics may wonder if Marchant's often critical attacks on the various tax havens may be clandestinely supported by various sectors of the US (and G7) governments who make no bones about the fact that they would like to dractically reduce bank secrecy offshore in an attempt to stamp out tax evasion and avoidance. Proponents would argue that many offshore jursidictions are lax in enforcing legislation targeting fraud and that Marchant performs a very necessary and daunting task of making offshore jursidictions less risky business propositions. Only time will tell which camp speaks the truth!

POLICY: Restrictions on Non-Bermudians Seeking or Obtaining Employment REF: W5
purpose: To define clearly certain conditions that apply to non-Bermudians who request permission to reside and seek employment in Bermuda. statement:
    Seeking Employment
A non-Bermudian resident may not look for a job without first obtaining permission from the Department of Immigration, unless exempted from work permit control by law. This does not apply to the holder of a WRC holder, a permanent resident or to the divorced parent of a Bermudian. A non-Bermudian who was a primary work permit holder, but who is no longer employed, may not seek employment or apply for employment without the permission of the Department of Immigration. An application to employ someone for whom another employer holds a valid work permit will not normally be considered unless the application is accompanied by a letter of release from the current employer. In cases where the current employer refuses to give a release, the Minister will make a decision as to whether the employee should be allowed to move, after consultation with the current employer when that is appropriate. Normally, permission will not be given during the first two years of the permit holder's employment without a letter of release from the current employer, unless there has been some unfair employment practice/ employer abuse.
