This was stated before the House unanimously passed a resolution condemning the 'un-diplomatic treatment' given to Pakistan's Senate delegation at Brussels airport in Belgium. An 8-member delegation of Pakistani Senate was stopped at the Brussels airport because of the presence of Maulana Samiul Haq, who heads his own faction of the Jamiat Ulema-e Islam (JUI-S), and is among clerics who opposed the US operations in Afghanistan and Iraq and organized protest rallies against the invasions. The resolution was moved by Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Dr. Sher Afghan Khan Niazi and was backed by all lawmakers.

The opposition's no-confidence motion was rejected 81-64 with one abstention after four hours of debate in parliament. The ruling Socialist and Christian Democrat parties, which backed Prime Minister Jean-Luc Dehaene, control 81 seats in the 150-member House of Representatives. Belgium State Police Chief Lt. Gen. Willy Deridder offered his resignation to Dehaene earlier Tuesday. The justice and interior ministers resigned last Thursday, hours after convicted child rapist Marc Dutroux escaped from pre-trial custody. For three hours last week, Dutroux was on the run after overpowering a policeman who was guarding him, making off with the officer's gun and hijacking a car outside. He was caught near the area when his car got stuck in the mud.
