Angry in T.O. at 11:03 AM Related articles: Cosmos CanConv Blogging Tories Poland's history has always revolved around freedom. But unlike some nations, Poland is showing herself to be an avid student of history and is working hard to avoid repeating mistakes.
From the Wikipedia The Polish nation began to form into a recognisable unitary territorial entity around the middle of the 10th century under the Piast dynasty. In the 12th century Poland fragmented into several smaller states, which were later ravaged by the Mongol armies of the Golden Horde in 1241. Under the Jagiellon dynasty, Poland forged an alliance with its neighbor Lithuania. A golden age occurred in the 16th century during its union (Lublin Union) with Lithuania in the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. The citizens of Poland took pride in their ancient freedoms and parliamentary system, though the Szlachta monopolised most of the benefits. Since that time Poles have regarded freedom as their most important value. Poles often call themselves the nation of the free people The Enlightenment in Poland fostered a growing national movement to repair the state, resulting in the first written constitution in Europe, in 1791 (May Constitution of Poland). The process of reforms ceased with the partitions of Poland between Russia, Prussia, and Austria in 1772, 1793 and 1795 which ultimately dissolved the country. Poles resented their shrinking freedoms and several times rebelled against their oppressors.

Structure Background of Belarussian Banking System in Brief In the aftermath of the October Revolution (1917) affiliates of the private banks in Belarus were nationalized, while the land banks were closed. On December 3, 1921, the Soviet of People's Commissars – SPC (Government) of the Belarusian Soviet Socialist Republic decreed that a Belarusian Office of the State Bank should be opened in Minsk. A month later, on January 3, 1922, the Office became operational. That was the day on which the Belarusian banking system originated and began developing. Later, local branches in Vitebsk, Borisov, Bobruisk, Moguilev as well as agencies in Slutsk, Mozyr, Orsha, Klimovichi, and Polotsk were opened.
Following the creation of the USSR, the State Bank (Gosbank) of the RSFSR (Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic) was transformed into the State Bank of the USSR. The Belarusian Office was incorporated therein. In January 1927, the Gomel branch, formerly under the direct control of the State Bank of the USSR, was reassigned to the Belarusian Office.
In 1923–1925, affiliates of the All–Union joint–stock banks (Prombank, All–Union Cooperative Bank, and, since 1936, Torgbank) became operational. It was in those years that a network of local banks was formed. In 1923, the Gomel Workers' Bank was opened which was transformed into the local communal bank a year later. In 1925, the Belcommunbank was set up.

BELARUS LEADER DEFENDS SADDAM, MOURNS LOSS OF USSR Charter`97 16 September 2005 The president of Belarus mourned the dissolution of the Soviet Union, defended former Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein and said the United States was causing chaos in the world. President Alexander Lukashenko, described by the Bush administration as the last dictator in Europe, also told world leaders at a UN summit yesterday that Iran and North Korea were only ``looked at through gun sights.`` ``Fifteen years have passed since the break-up of my country, the USSR,`` Lukashenko said. ``The Soviet Union, despite all mistakes and blunders of its leaders, was the source of hope and support for many states and peoples.`` He said the former Soviet Union provided a balance in the global system, now dominated by the United States which acts unilaterally and sees crises in ``black and white.`` More ...

Help is necessary of the outside. It was in the evening of May 7th 1999. The first day of the campaign for "lawful presidency elections" came to an end . Juri Sacharenko, one of the organizers, was on his way home. Shortly before he had called his wife, he will be there soon. But Sacharenko never arrived. The opposition politician and former Secretaries of the Interior of White Russia is disappeared up to this day. "The letting disappear is the most terrible form in our country of human right injuries", says Tatsiana Protska, chairmen of the Belorussian Helsinki committee . Opposition politicians disappear under this the heads of the unofficial election commission Viktor Gontschar and his partner Anatolij Krasovskij in White Russia again and again. Nothing is known about their whereabouts to this day. "The cases aren't examined at all. There is not a single official statement and when we demanded inquiries publicly was threatened to us a process ", Protska reports. Human right injuries happen daily in Belarus. Unfair court methods belong as well to it as arbitrary arrests. Alone the Helsinki committee looks after 2000 clients in his thirteen advice centers. "It could be still much more but we simply can¬´t make this personnelly".

Shadow over Belarus poll
An elderly voter weighs up her election preference By Anna Badkhen MINSK, Belarus Voters go to the polls in Belarus this weekend to decide on whether to endorse the Soviet-style administration of Alyaksandr Lukashenka. Lukashenka, a former collective farm leader, is aiming to be re-elected for his second five year term as president on September 9. He predicts he will win 90 per cent of the vote, but critics say the result will be rigged and the election riddled with intimidation and fear. One Minsk resident, who did not wish to be named said: "I am sick of being afraid. Give us a normal president." Belarus, which sits between Russia and Poland, gained independence from the former Soviet Union in 1991. But unlike its cousins who gained independence at the same time, Belarus has ignored the West and instead veered back to the old Soviet-style for its 10 million population and with it, accusations of political repression and fear of reprisals. Independent media has been subject to a crackdown, the management of the country's only national television channel having been replaced by handpicked presidential choices.
