U Lazy 2 Cattle Company
U Lazy 2 Cattle Company
U Lazy 2 Cattle Company is a cattle company based on the idea that the cattle business is really the food business. Our goal is to produce a high quality product consistently for the consumer. While the cost of production is one important factor in the cattle business another is that of demand. Beef like any other product needs to have the highest quality possible, therefore U Lazy 2 measures all livestock by the carcass it produces. This data is then correlated to create a past historical database that increases the consistency and quality of our beef product through better genetic selection.
Our Mission
U Lazy 2's purpose is to produce something that the consumer demands while at the same time cutting costs for the producer in as many ways as possible without giving up our goals of higher quality and consistency. Our goal is to be able to supply better food products through better beef genetics based on our end product, known as the carcass.
Contact Information
Here at U Lazy 2 , we are always attempting to improve our methods and help others do the same. We consult with people all over the world to both gain a better understanding about our business as well to provide a valuable service to others. If we can help you in anyway, please feel free to give us a call or drop a note. We are very familiar with all aspects of the beef industry, from the Cow/Calf producer to the carcass values and all the genetics in between.

    Calving Difficulty in Beef Cattle
Harlan D. Ritchie, Michigan State University and Peter T. Anderson, University of Minnesota Age of Dam Table 1 is a summary of calving data from MARC and Colorado State University (CSU), relating age of dam to calving difficulty. These data illustrate that age of dam has a profound effect on the incidence of dystocia. First-calf, two-year-old heifers represent the greatest source of trouble to the beef herd owner. Difficulty in two-year-olds is three to four times as high as in three-year-olds, and three-year-olds have about twice as much difficulty as four-year-olds. By the time a cow reaches four to five years of age, dystocia problems are minimal. Calving difficulty in MARC Hereford and Angus cows was higher than in CSU Hereford cows, presumably because the former tended to be mated to larger continental sires, whereas the latter were mated only to Hereford sires. Calf's Birth Weight and Sex Table 2 is taken from a Miles City study correlating calving difficulty with several traits in two-year-old Hereford and Angus heifers. A perfect correlation would be 1.0; anything over 0.40 was highly significant; 0.18 to 0.40, significant; less than 0.18, nonsignificant. Birth weight of the calf was the trait most highly correlated with calving difficulty, followed by sex of calf. Pelvic area, gestation length, and cow weight had considerably less influence. Much of the influence of sex of calf is believed to be indirect, through its effect on increased calf size. However, after correcting for birth weight, differences in dystocia between sexes still remain, suggesting that factors other than fetal size may be involved.

Contact: Dr. Ted McCollum, (806) 677-5600, ft-mccollum@tamu.edu Dr. Ted McCollum, Texas Cooperative Extension beef cattle specialist from Amarillo, led off the afternoon's session on "Improving Profit with Animal Identification." McCollum stressed the importance of distinguishing what the animal identification system is and not confusing it with other programs. "The National Animal Identification System is focused on animal tracking and disease control," he said. "Within a 48-hour period, the system is designed to trace back and find where that animal has been and what other animals its been associated with." McCollum said a national animal identification plan had been in the beginning stages long before the first discovery of mad cow disease in the United States in December 2003. He also noted the identification system is not just for beef cattle, but for other livestock, including swine and poultry. The national system won't be fully implemented until 2008, but McCollum urged ranchers to begin registering with the Texas Animal Health Commission for a "premise"identification number. That number will help officials locate the ranch where the animal originated, he said.

Beef Cattle This web page has been developed to assist people interested in the beef cattle industry to obtain information about different aspects involved with cow-calf operations. My goal is to bring together the best information available to assist beef producers to increase their production efficiency while remaining compatible with the environment by maintaining or enhancing the natural ecosystem. Most successful cow-calf operations depend on a high weaned calf crop percentage, maximal total pounds of beef produced per female in the herd and a competitive market price for quality calves while minimizing cost of production. In accomplishing this goal, ranchers must carefully study all management practices available, technology, and financial and marketing tools in attempt to optimize returns to the cow-calf operation. In addition to this Web Page, Extension publications are available through the Cooperative Extension Service, University of Florida, Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences. Your local county Extension livestock agent can assist you in identifying a wide variety of educational programming efforts aimed at optimizing returns to your ranching operation. British White Beef Cattle
Since formation in 1987, the British White Cattle Association of America has continued to be the official registry of British White Beef Cattle in the United States. The British White Cattle Some authors suggest British White Cattle were brought to the United Kingdom by the Romans about 55 B.C. There is further evidence that British White Cattle were in the United Kingdom in pre-Roman times; perhaps as early as 4000 B.C. One of the oldest herds of British White Cattle was the Sommerford herd. It was owned by Sir Walter Shakerly in Cheshire and established in 1725. It was dispersed in 1925 only five years after the breeds first herd book was published, but never the less, Somerford Bulls or their Sons were used in all except two of the herds listed in the first volumes of the book and featured very widely in the Woodbastwick and Fugate herds. The Woodbastwick herd owned by John Cator is now the oldest British White Cattle herd. In 1940, the British Government ordered the shipment of a group of these cattle to
