W e are located in a perfect location to purchase local Indian beadwork from various Native Americans. The majority of our work is Shoshone. The Shoshone Bannock Reservation is just two hours away over the border in Idaho and many Shoshone people have made Salt Lake City and the surrounding areas their home. In addition to the Shoshone beadwork, we get Navajo beadwork from locals, and also from families located nearby on the Reservation in the Four Corners Area. The buckskin used with the Indian beadwork we carry is not a commercially tanned hide. It is brain tanned, a tanning process using the brain of the deer which makes the leather very soft. Some buckskin is left white while some is "smoked" and is soft brown in appearance, and carries a heavenly smoked scent. With beadwork becoming harder and harder to find, we are always pleased to find new artists that continue to carry on the tedious labors of traditional beadwork.
tm are very proud to bring you what we feel is some of the highest quality Indian beadwork available today.

http://www.thunderbaymuseum.com/beadwork.htm
"Little Spirits on
a Thread" Swampy Cree and Ojibway beadwork and embroidery such as the examples seen here are some of the most beautiful artifacts in the Thunder Bay Museum's collections. Pouches, patches, belts, bags sashes and aprons form the bulk of the holdings but some pieces are as big as table clothes. Most of these items were collected by one man, Anglican Archdeacon Richard Faries who, from 1899 to about 1950, was a missionary to the Cree Indians in a large region centred on York Factory on Hudson Bay. In payment for services such as medical care, baptisms and marriages, Faries collected the beadwork and embroidery done by the local women. He also, for a time, sought to aid the poor economy of the region, particularly among the aboriginal people of his parishes, by stimulating a demand for these marvellous creations in southern markets. Unfortunately he had little success. His own love for this art form is evident in the care he gave to his own personal collection, most of it surviving from the early twentieth century in pristine condition. The Richard Faries collection is composed of about 1,000 pieces, all of similar quality to that shown here. A second collection concentrates on Ojibway beadwork in the region around Thunder Bay. Though much smaller in size than the Faries collection, and quite different in design and character, the Ojibway beadwork, in particular a heavily beaded series of bandolier bags, is some of the most stunning in existence.

New! The Bead Words
Why did I create All About Beading? A simple reason that turned into a full time addiction, I love to bead. I think think about beadwork all the time. I wander the web oggling at the works of other talented beaders. Amazing tiny bits of glass, metal, pottery and clay transformed into all sorts of beaded decorations from jewelry to house and garden decor. Beads applied to a plethora of objects, none to small or too large it would seem. Then along came the world wide web! Over the years beaders have become firnly ensconsed on the net with literally hundreds of thousands of web sites running the gamut from brick stitch, to all forms of peyote stitch, loom work, ancient beadwork, ethinic beads and their origins, bead designs and jewelry designers by the hundreds. My poor bookmark folder was getting to be impossible to navigate. DING! Idea! Put my links on a web page, all sorted and voila! So I put them up in 2001. Nice. Fine and dandy. But the list of beading links grew and grew and grew! I finally decided to get my own domain name and buy a database program to house them in an even more orderly fashion. Today I am approaching almost 10,000 beading links.
