On March 6, 2002, the Ivy League dedicated a new permanent team trophy for the sport of women's basketball. The Farquhar-Baker Ivy League Women's Basketball Trophy honors two of the pioneer women's athletics administrators in the Ivy League - Hildegaard Farquhar from Penn and Merrily Dean Baker from Princeton. BASKETBALL Entry Opens: January 3, 2005 Entry Closes: January 7, 2005 Play Begins: January 12, 2005 Entry Fee: Refundable Deposit* of $30 per team payable at the Intramural Sports Office located in Gerald Ratner Center, Rm 139. How to Enter a Team

  • Officiated Team Sports - Procure information sheet at the Intramural Sport Information Center at Ratner or on-line http://athletics.uchicago.edu/campus/campus-imsports.htm to register a team. Attend the mandatory manager’s meeting. A $30.00 entry fee is required of all teams entered in the following sports: Broomball, Basketball, Flag Football, Indoor/Outdoor Soccer, Innertube Waterpolo, Softball 12" &16", Swim Meet, Ultimate Frisbee, Volleyball, and all officiated team sports. The entry fee is paid in CASH only at the Office of Intramural, Recreation, and Sport Clubs; 5560 Gerald Ratner Center, Rm 139. On-line registration must be paid within twenty four hours of the submission time line. Late entries will be accepted only if time and space are available, if acceptance to league does not inconvenience other teams, and the required meeting is attended. Scheduling is done on an instant scheduling basis. Teams registering early have more choices of times to play.

Russian youth basketball team wins European Championship
MOSCOW, July 18 (RIA Novosti) - The Russian youth basketball team won the European Championship after defeating the Latvian team in the final game, 61:53. The highest scorer in the game was Latvia's Renaldas Seibutis with 17 points. The highest-scoring players on the Russian team, coached by Yevgeny Pashutin, were Anton Ponkrashov (13 points) and Nikita Shabalkin (12 points). The team from Serbia and Montenegro won the bronze after defeating the team from Israel. The European youth basketball championship (for ages 20 and below) was first held in 1992. Russia had never won any medals until now.

Sports Editor June 28, 2005 The Ducks, who ended last season with a 14-13 overall record and a tie for eighth place in the Pacific-10 Conference standings, face a non-conference schedule that includes six participants in the postseason last year. The regular season begins with the Ducks hosting the Hispanic Classic, a round-robin tournament where Oregon plays Tennessee Tech (Nov. 20), Savannah State (Nov. 21), NCAA participant Pacific (Nov. 22) and Georgetown (Dec. 3). Oregon also hosts Rice (Nov. 26), Santa Clara (Dec. 13), Howard (Dec. 20) and Portland State (Dec. 27).

Briboneria was named the team’s Most Valuable Player, while Burford locked up both the Best Defensive Player and the Hustle Award. Junior Meg Reitz (Worcester, Mass.) was honored as the Most Improved Player, making it an upperclass sweep of the four major team awards. Oberlin is coming off its best season in four years. The Yeowomen finished the 2004-2005 campaign with a 10-16 overall record and a seventh place finish in the North Coast Athletic Conference.
