Marcia Greenberger/Neena Chaudhry: The Civil Rights Act of 1964 does not apply to the issue of whether separate teams for boys and girls are permissible, because it does not apply to sex discrimination. Title IX does address this issue: it allows , but does not require , separate teams for men and women in many circumstances because of differences in the nature of training, physical characteristics, choices of sports, and the history of discrimination. Under Title IX, however, there are protections to ensure that women are not disadvantaged.

From 1999-2004 she taught Spanish at the Chadwick School, a coeducational independent K-12 school in Palos Verdes, California. When Shellie isn’t in the classroom teaching she spends her time traveling around the world and getting to know people. She has traveled extensively in Mexico, throughout Latin America and Europe, having led many student trips to these areas. She spends summers in Panama teaching English, traveling, and developing study units for her students. Her other hobbies include collecting foreign books and music and participating in track and field. At The Bay School, Shellie teaches Spanish and French. “The Bay Area and The Bay School both match my energy and my enthusiasm. The idea of offering four languages at an independent school is awesome, and I’m excited to be a part of something new.”

Transfer Course Equivalencies
Updated March 2005
Following is a list of current course equivalents between Concordia University and the University of Nebraska-Lincoln; credit at NU is stated in semester hours. If a specific UNL course equivalent has not been identified, other notations are used.
  • GNCR; course transfers as UNL general hours
  • SUBJ; course transfers as subject area hours (e.g., ENGLXXX, MATHXXX) not assigned to a specific course
  • NDAP; excess transfer course hours which are included in the equivalency and generally not degree-applicable
  • VCRD; vocational/skill development course: limited application to a UNL degree
  • HSCR; course is high school or remedial level; hours and course do not transfer
Contact your NU college to determine whether a course will be applicable to your intended major. While every effort is made to keep this list up to date, courses may be added or deleted at any time. Courses not listed may also be transferable and degree applicable. Equivalencies are date-specific and dependent upon when the course was taken. Equivalencies no longer in effect are not included in the list, but will be included in NU's evaluation of transfer credit if taken during the period the equivalency was in effect. In some cases, two or more transfer courses may be needed to achieve the equivalent of a UNL course. For an official evaluation of transfer credits, students are encouraged to apply for admission to NU, and submit complete high school and post-secondary transcripts. Begin your search for courses by selecting one of Concordia University's subject abbreviations:

Discuss Stress test: Reforms have academic advisers feeling heat 01:23 PM CST on Monday, February 21, 2005 By JEFF MILLER / The Dallas Morning News When a national gathering of academic advisers for college athletes was welcomed to Indianapolis last summer, a reference to their role in the growing area of major-college academic reform sounded as much like a warning as it did a pep talk. "You're in the trenches," said Bernard Franklin, an NCAA senior vice president. "You're where it counts." Rules added in recent years require Division I athletes to make progress toward a specific degree and steadily improve their grade point averages. The stakes were raised again last month at the NCAA convention in Grapevine with the adoption of an academic performance rate for every team. 08:40 PM CDT on Saturday, July 30, 2005 By JEFF MILLER / The Dallas Morning News
The NCAA's Division I academic performance committee this week will recommend an adjustment that won't penalize teams for losing players in good academic standing who leave early to turn pro. The committee will also propose scaled specific penalties for schools with teams that habitually fail to reach the new cutoff for graduation success. And it will recommend financial rewards for exemplary performance. The proposals will be made Thursday in Indianapolis to the division's board of directors, chaired by Kansas chancellor Robert Hemenway. The academic committee chair, University of Hartford president Walt Harrison, said Friday that he's confident the board will accept the recommendations. In January, the committee announced the inception of an academic rating for each team in Division I. All sports are scored, but the main intent of the plan was to improve graduation rates in football, men's basketball and baseball.
