Darrell Barnes MS, LAT, ATC, CSCS Darrell is a clinical athletic trainer and has worked in the physical therapy setting for 7 ½ years. In addition to the clinic, Darrell is also a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist. Combining strength and performance with a medical background allows Darrell to focus on athletic performance enhancement while addressing physical imbalances that could lead to injury. Darrell has experience working with all levels of athletes from the recreational to the professional. Darrell Graduated from Indiana University with a bachelor's degree in Exercise Science in 1992 and with a master's degree in Athletic Training in 1994. He is currently the education coordinator for St. Vincent Sports Medicine, an associate professor for IUPUI, and is the medical chairman for the USA High School Track and Field Association of Indiana. Darrell was also named the Indiana Athletic Trainer of the year in the clinical division in 2001.

Bios on Past Internal Speakers Cedric W. Dempsey NCAA President Cedric Dempsey became the NCAA's third executive director January 1, 1994 (his title was changed to president April 22, 1998). As president, Dr. Dempsey oversees a staff of 350 and provides leadership in the governance structure for the more than 1,200 colleges, universities, conferences and affiliated organizations that comprise the Association. Prior to joining the NCAA in 1994, Dr. Dempsey was director of athletics at several universities, including the University of Arizona, the University of Houston, San Diego State University and University of the Pacific(California). Prior to serving in these positions, Dr. Dempsey was assistant director of health, physical education, recreation and athletics; assistant basketball coach and professor at Arizona. Dr. Dempsey was the head basketball, cross-country and tennis coach at Albion College in Albion, Michigan and served in various capacities at the University of Illinois, Champaign. In total, Dr. Dempsey has accumulated more than 40 years of experience in college athletics positions and organizations. Dr. Dempsey has been active in NCAA affairs since 1974 and has served on many of the Association's most influential committees, including the Executive Committee, the Budget Subcommittee (serving as chair), the Division I Men's Basketball Committee (serving as chair), the Division I Women's Basketball Committee; and several special committees such as the Television Negotiations Committee, the Football Television Committee and the Committee on Cost Containment. After graduating from college with a BS in Broadcasting, Ashley spent the next ten years as a professional runner. During this time he was a successful fixture on the US Road Racing Circuit. He was ranked in the Top 10 in the World Road Racing Rankings by Track and Field News and Runners World, and finished his career with a 13 th place finish at the 1996 US Olympic Marathon Trials. Ashley has also broken the magic 4-minute barrier in the mile. While living in Oregon, Ashley worked at The Portland Running Company. His interest and enthusiasm for the running retail business flourished and Ashley dedicated himself to learning the technology behind gait analysis and shoe construction, providing invaluable experience. Ashley continued his retail career on the opposite coast at Marathon Sports in Massachusetts. (January 14, 2005) – Paralympians Bradley Johnson (Hollywood, Fla.) and James Lagerstrom (Dearborn, Mich.) have been elected as the summer and winter Paralympic sports representatives to the United States Olympic Committee Athletes’ Advisory Council (AAC) for the 2005-2008 quadrennial. Johnson, a two-time Paralympian who earned a bronze medal at the 2004 Paralympic Games in sailing and who was a member of the 2000 Sitting Volleyball Team, will serve as the summer sports representative. He will be supported by seven-time Paralympian Trischa Zorn (Fishers, IN), who was elected as the summer sport alternative representative. Lagerstrom, a four-time Paralympian and medalist in alpine skiing, will serve as the winter sports representative. At this time, no alternate winter representative has been elected.
