The Milford Yankees - Black Baseball In Wartime Delaware
Some writers have speculated that Negro League baseball was the single biggest and most successful black owned enterprise in America during the "golden years" of the late 1930s and 1940s. While Delaware wasn't at center stage in the world of Negro League baseball, the Milford Yankees brought a strong team and strong local following to Milford with a squad made up mainly of hometown players. Site Moved!!!!! - UPDATE!!!!
New Update - September 2, 2004 I found two new hosts, one offering unlimited space (but popups) and the other offering 150 megs of space (and, again, popups). I am currently uploading the site to the unlimited host and will finish uploading to the 150 meg host later. The 150 megs site and the site that is down will now be considered mirror sites. The URLs to the new sites are as follows: http://baseballhistory.vzz.net (this will be the main site) http://baseballhist.topcities.com (this will be one of the mirrors) I still can't access the other site and it's been four days now since that one went down. Alternatively, if anyone else has been able to access it, send me an e-mail 'cause then it means that something is wrong on my end. My e-mail's at the bottom of my page (just click my name). It's still http://baseballhistory.000k2.com With the new host, I may very well be able to expand the site to include player information, but I'll have to see how well things work out with the new host. Frankly, though, I hope things work out just fine with this one because they're the fifth host I've signed up for in the past month! I'm tired of looking around and want to get things up so that everyone can enjoy the site as I intended. I think it's very unfair for you, the visitors, to come looking for something about baseball, only to not be able to access it because of an unreliable host. But, as I said, hopefully now everyone will be able to enjoy it and not have to worry about it suddenly going down.

    Baseball and Jackie Robinson
    Overview
1997 marked the 50th anniversary of Jackie Robinson's rookie season for the Brooklyn Dodgers. When he stepped onto Ebbets field on April 15th, 1947, Robinson became the first African American in the twentieth century to play baseball in the major leagues breaking the "color line," a segregation practice dating to the nineteenth century. Jackie Robinson was an extremely talented multi-sport athlete and a courageous man who played an active role in civil rights. This presentation was created to commemorate his achievements and describe some aspects of the color line's development and the Negro Leagues. Materials that tell his story, and the history of baseball in general, are located throughout the Library of Congress. This web presentation was made possible by a generous gift from the Citigroup Foundation. TIMELINE Baseball, the Color Line, and Jackie Robinson

Hoboken, New Jersey - Where Baseball was Born! A Little History, A Little Store,
and Some Links..
On 19 June 1846, the first officially recorded, organized baseball match was played under Alexander Joy Cartwright's rules on Hoboken's Elysian Fields with the New York Base Ball Club defeating the Knickerbockers 23-1. Cartwright umpired. In the Harper's Weekly of 15 October 1859, a spread was devoted to two games being played on Hoboken's Elysian Fields. Across the top was an image of a cricket match. Across the bottom was this image of a baseball game. So, what about Abner Doubleday and Cooperstown, you ask? I'll let The National Baseball Hall of Fame speak for itself. Here's the last paragraph from the "A Short History of the Hall of Fame" page on their website (as of 28 December 2000): I originally included the words "Birthplace of Baseball" in this site's designs, both on the merchandise and the banners. But then, thanks to the , I discovered that the Cooperstown folk have those words trademarked for a number of uses. They filed it in May 1995, the USPTO published it for Opposition 18 June 1996 (Almost 150 years to the date after the first organized game in Hoboken!), and the mark was granted in August of 1998. So, I opted for "Where Baseball was Born", instead.
