School of Recreation and Sports Sciences
Ming Li, Director The School of Recreation and Sport Sciences offers diverse academic programs in athletic training education, exercise physiology, physical education, recreation studies, and sport industry. In addition to these majors, a minor in recreation is also available. Committed to excellence in undergraduate education, most programs in the school have been accredited or approved by national accrediting agencies or organizations, such as National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE), Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP), National Recreation and Parks Association (NRPA), and Sport Management Program Review Council (SMPRC). The school faculty are committed to promoting the pursuit of an active and healthy lifestyle. For information about the programs, go to our Web site at http://www.ohio.edu/rsps/index.htm Note: Courses offered through the School of Recreation and Sport Sciences vary in number of times they can be retaken (i.e., initial registration plus retake). If you need to know the limit for a course, contact the college's Student Services office. Variable credit courses usually cannot be retaken (i.e., with the possibility of the initial grade no longer being figured in the accumulative grade point calculation) but can be repeated for credit to count toward your degree. While no limit has been set for repeats of PED courses, individual majors, schools, departments, and colleges may limit the number of such hours that can count toward graduation.

Physical education and sport sciences programs have been designed to promote basic knowledge in human movement, to provide contemporary professional curricula, and to offer diverse activity programs that provide for the development of motor skills and physical fitness for all students. The Recreation Studies curriculum is designed to provide students with a comprehensive program that includes both basic and practical knowledge in the field of recreation. Both major and minor curricula are offered. Note: Most courses offered through the School of Recreation and Sport Sciences can be retaken up to two times (i.e., one initial registration and two retakes). Variable-credit courses usually cannot be retaken (i.e., with the initial grade being removed), but can be repeated for credit to count toward your degree. While no limit has been set for repeats of PED courses, individual majors, schools, departments, and colleges may limit the number of such hours that can count toward graduation.

Follow all of the college baseball action at CollegeSports.com Email this to a friend Nov. 19, 2001 COLLEGE PARK, Md.- Maryland baseball coach Terry Rupp and assistant coach/recruiting coordinator Gregg Kilby announced Monday that three student-athletes have the Terrapins. Jeremy Hunt (St. Petersburg, Fla.), Matt Maropis (Export, Pa.) and Josh Murray (Tampa, Fla.) will all be members of the baseball team beginning in the 2003 season. "Coming off a large recruiting class in 2001, our needs for this recruiting class were more specific," commented Kilby. "We feel like we met those needs by signing two of the top infielders in the country along with a two-way player that can help us on the mound and at the plate. All three players were heavily recruited and we are very pleased they chose the University of Maryland." Hunt (6-2, 210) is a right-handed pitcher/first baseman who hails from St. Petersburg, Fla. Hunt spent the last three seasons at Jesuit High School in Tampa, Fla. before transferring to Northside Christian this season. Hunt was tabbed the No. 38 prospect in the state of Florida and the nation's No. 187 prospect by Prospect Plus/Baseball America. Last summer, Hunt participated in the Team One National Showcase in Tempe, Arz. while also playing at the Team One East Coast Showcase in Clemson, S.C. At the 2001 Team One Florida tryouts, Hunt was labeled the ninth-best prospect at the tryout. "Jeremy is a strong pitcher who throws consistently in the upper 80s and tops out between 91-92 mph while possessing an advanced breaking ball," said Kilby. "We feel that he will have an immediate impact on our pitching staff and he also has the ability to swing the bat with power."

Insider Timber Rattler Coverage by The Post-Crescent
After nearly a decade, Fox Cities Stadium's value to region still on the upswing By Brett Christopherson

Post-Crescent staff writer
GRAND CHUTE When Carl Gardner gazes upon Fox Cities Stadium, he sees a perfect place to watch a few warm summer hours melt away. When Pam Seidl sneaks a peek at the baseball park, she sees a gold mine. Neither view is off base. Fox Cities Stadium, the home of the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers minor league baseball team, is touted as a quality venue to watch and play baseball. But the stadium, set to begin its 10th season this week, also has hit a home run for the regional community in terms of entertainment sports and otherwise and as an economic engine, say residents and officials. "I'm not much of a baseballer, but I have a good time when I go," said Gardner, an educational assistant for special-needs students at Wilson Middle School in Appleton who has attended Timber Rattlers games the past three years with his students. "There's more going on than just baseball. The stadium is usually full. It's a lot of fun."
