Date: Subject: Pentacostal Religion vs. Baptist Religion Question I am Baptist and have raised my daughter to be Baptist. She attends Wednesday night services at a Pentacostal chruch with a friend. Last night she told me she wants to convert to the Pentacostal church. I don't know any of the beliefs of the Pentacostal Religion to make a judgement. What are the the beliefs? I don't like the idea that women can't wear pants, no makeup, no cutting the hair, etc. Thanks Answer dear stefanie, i recommend you talk to the pastor of the church in person. Pentecostal churches vary widely from church to church. I, for example, have no problem with women wearing pants or makeup. However, the pastor of this church may believe something really extremist like that. I would definitely ask the pastor some crucial questions. What church body are they affiliated with? (the most probably answers are: the Assemblies of God, Church of God, or the United Pentecostal Churches international. if he says that their church is with the Assemblies or the Church of God, it probably isn't too bad of a church, but if he says that they are a UPC church, beware! the UPC is a really extremist organization that can be cultish in certain places. there are also many independent pentecostal churches each of which are far too different for me to give you any helpful advice.

This Sacred Land by Anthony Stanonis The populace of the Antebellum South stood defiantly for the ideals considered vital to their way of life as issues such as states' rights, slavery, and tariffs were debated in the national political arena. Eventually, a distinct Southern agenda and ideology developed that permeated all aspects of southern life. Even religion did not escape untainted. As stated by the character Augustine in Harriet Beecher Stowe's Uncle Tom's Cabin , Southern planters, clergymen, and politicians "may warp and bend language and ethics to a degree that shall astonish the world at their ingenuity." < > Ministers such as Isaac Backus also believed that God had "appointed two kinds of government in the world which are distinct in their nature and ought never to be confounded together, one of which is called civil the other ecclesiastical government." < At mid-century, two developments in the Philadelphia Baptist Association would impact the faith for the next hundred years. In 1749, a decree based on the Biblical passages of Acts 15 was issued. Citing the Scriptures' account of how the Council of Jerusalem sent out representatives to spread Christianity, as well as how the disciple "Paul insisted that they should not take with them someone who had deserted them at Pamphylia and who had not continued with them in their work," the Philadelphia Association declared the right to withdraw fellowship from a church or person who practiced misconduct. <

I. Group Profile
  • Name: Primitive Baptists
  • Founder: The Primitive Baptist faith does not have a single founder or specific group responsible for organizing this Baptist tradition. There is, however, a generally-agreed upon timeline of events culminating in the split of the Old School Baptists from the Missionary Baptists. This occured when ten elders and ten brethren convened at Black Rock, Maryland on September 28, 1832. Elder Wm. Gilmore was chosen to moderate the proceedings and Gabriel Conklin presided as clerk for the writing of the Black Rock Address . Two elders, Wilson and Bowen, were not present at the meeting but authorized their identification on the address.
  • Date of Birth: not applicable due to the lack of a specified founder.
  • Birth Place: n/a
  • Year Founded: The year 1832 is frequently used as the founding date. See the history which follows for details of earlier benchmarks that led to the founding of the present day Primitive Baptist faith.
  • Sacred or Revered Texts: The Bible is regarded as the only true word.

The National Baptist Convention of America
Jennifer Puma The National Baptist Convention of America (NBCA), originally and colloquially called the Nation Baptist Convention, Unincorporated, is a product of the 1915 split in the National Baptist Convention, U.S.A., which was founded in 1895. The factor in "incorporation" was the longtime distinguishing characteristic between both factions, although both conventions are now fully incorporated. The central issue in this conflict was the publishing house in Nashville, Tennessee. The dispute involved the "Boyd faction" led by the rev. Ronald Boyd, secretary of the Publishing Board, and the "Morris faction," led by the Rev. Edmond Morris, president of the convention. Ultimately, the Boyd faction took the name "National Baptist Convention of America" and remained unincorporated until recently. The Morris faction retains the original name of the convention, but incorporated to become the National Baptist Convention, U.S.A., Inc.
Both groups claim to be the original parent body. Both claim the founding date of 1880. In fact, no unified National Baptist Convention existed in 1880, which was the founding date of the oldest of the three entities that merged in 1895. In short, while three Baptist bodies went into the funnel in 1895, two emerged from the other end in 1915.

Worldwide Baptist Convention Gets Underway In Cuba
By Jim Burns. CNS Senior Staff Writer. 03 July, 2000. CNS News (CNSNews.com) - For the first time in history, Havana, Cuba is the scene as Baptist religion leaders from around the world began a six day General Council meeting of the Baptist World Alliance Monday. The leaders will discuss what officials call "issues of importance to Baptist life" as well as demonstrating their support for the Cuban Baptist community. Baptists are the largest Protestant group in Cuba. Denton Lotz, BWA General Secretary explained that the religious organization decided to meet in Cuba, "to experience revival, encourage the Baptist family in Cuba, learn from them and proclaim the Word of Christ." "For many years, due to ideological struggles around the world, Cuban Baptists had been cut off from many brothers and sisters. Therefore, it is with great joy that we have accepted the kind invitation of the Cuban Baptists. It is the Cuban Baptists who invited us, who are hosting this meeting, who have opened their hearts and churches to Baptists worldwide," Lotz said. Lotz made it clear that the meeting isn't being held in Cuba, "to affirm a particular philosophy or a system of government. We do not affirm a culture or ideology; we go to affirm the movement of Christ among our people."

    20. Primitive Baptist Churches In Jasper County, IL
Elder Webb has also provided a history of the Primitive baptist religion whichyou will find at the end of the page (click here).
    http://www.iltrails.org/jasper/baptists.html
THE REGULAR BAPTISTS OF JASPER COUNTY (LATER KNOWN AS REGULAR PREDESTINARIAN and also PRIMITIVE BAPTISTS) Illinois Trails is excited to be able to bring you the following history of some of the Primitive Baptist churches of Jasper County. This information is being graciously provided by Elder Robert Webb, pastor of the Carthage Primitive Baptist Church in Carthage, Hancock County, IL. Elder Webb and the other members of his church have organized the "Primitive Baptist Library" as a private library (not affiliated as a society of the churches) containing a collection of materials related to the Primitive Baptist churches. The Carthage Primitive Baptist Church, organized in 1997, is a small church consisting of 5 members and they are to be commended for their work in preserving the records of Jasper County's Baptist heritage. They maintain a database of records which unfortunately cannot be shared online due to privacy issues, but Elder Webb has graciously consented to provide look-ups from the database as well as the other resources they have available. Below are listed the Jasper Baptist Churches and the history of that church which Elder Webb has provided, and underneath the history is a list of the family surnames who have records in the database of that church. Elder Webb and his members eventually hope to publish a book with as much of the actual information as possible, but until that date, we hope you will be able to find information on your ancestors here. The church records do not give information about marriages, or births of children, and all baptisms were of adult believers, not infants. The records identify the people as living in the area, when they joined the church, what part they took in the church if they were ordained, or an officer.
