    By Dr. Ab bul Momen
E-mail: abdul_momen@hotmail.com Dear Friends: The names of many victims have been published in a book along with dozens of photographs but the Bangladesh government banned its distribution outside. No one can carry these reports abroad. A few persons that tried to take them out of the country have been arrested at the airport and are now being charged with sedition. I am attaching only four photographs herewith for your quick glance. Every day, on average 10/12 people are being murdered in Bangladesh- it exceeded that of occupied Palestine where daily death rate (both groups) is 3 for the last 18 months. But unfortunately, as the international news media is not covering the 'crime against humanity' in Bangladesh, the newly elected pro-fundamentalist government of Begum Khaleda Zia let loose a reign of terror, looting and murders. There is still no end in sight!!! Price for a respectable College President for being outspoken and be a minority. He was murdered reportedly by the members of the newly elected ruling party activists. Within the last three weeks, a number of young girls have been gang raped that includes Fahima (10), Mahima (15), Selina (14), Sabrina (15), and Bilkis (28). Except Bilkis, a housewife, the rest of them committed suicide to save their families from dishonor. Most pathetic is that, after the gang rape of Mahima by three of the ruling party activists namely Sumon, Nasir and Halim [Halim is a teacher of a Madrassa], they circulated the photographs of the 'rape' and the rape victim within the locality giving the names and address to defame the honor of her parents and family as they belong to the secularist 'opposition' party, the Awami League. She committed suicide. What a mentality!!!

Ajoy Roy Published on June 27, 2005 Under the initiative of UK Parliamentary Human Rights Group a one day conference was held on June 17 in London entitled “ The organizing committee invited many human right organizations, human right defenders, individuals, academicians, NGOs, secularists, Bangladesh Government representatives, political sufferers, representative of persecuted minority communities- ethnic, cultural, religious, sectarian .. to cover different shades of opinions. To quote the opening remarks of Sir Eric, which reflects the mind of the steering committee: “ The meeting has been carefully planned to allow as many different points of view to be expressed as possible.” Referring to the presence of strong team of representatives of Bangladesh Government Sir Eric expressed hope that “ they will not only give the conference an official viewpoint on the many allegations of violence, persecution and discrimination which are likely to be made, but will also take back these concerns to the authorities in Dhaka But in reality the representatives of BD government did the opposite- they only played the old broken record of Mrs. Khaleda Zia Rahman and her 4-party alliance Government of Bangladesh.

The bombs exploded simultaneously in four cinemas in the town of Mymensingh, 110 km north of the capital Dhaka, killing 19 people and injuring more than 200 others. The cinemas were packed with thousands of ordinary working people who had gone to see a film to celebrate the end of Muslim fasting month of Ramadan. A number of those taken to hospital were in a critical condition. No one has claimed responsibility. Last October, the BNP regime angrily rejected claims made in

Bangladesh government introduces harsh new security laws
By Y.A. Dharmasena 29 February 2000 Use this version to print Bangladesh President Shahabuddin Ahmed signed into law a Public Safety (Special Provisions) Bill on February 14 giving sweeping powers to the police. Under the pretext of dealing with criminals and terrorists, Prime Minister Sheik Hasina's government will use the new law to witchhunt the political opponents of the ruling Awami League regime and to suppress social unrest by workers and the poor. Hasina's regime has already begun to use the law against opposition activists. According to a report on February 18, 300 members of the opposition Bangladesh National Party (BNP), including the city mayor, have been charged under the new measures in Rajshahi, southwestern Bangladesh. In the Dhaka metropolitan area nine cases had been registered under the new law by February 17. Section 16 of the bill deprives those charged of the right to obtain bail during the trial period. If the tribunal finds an accused is not involved with the case it can grant bail but only after its investigation is completed. This investigation can take 75 days and a trial up to 90 days, and a tribunal can extend both periods.
