Language is a bridge that unifies the culture and can liberate a country as well
Aminur Rahman (Bangladesh) One of the main tools that the various cultures in the world have in common, besides a complex set of values, beliefs, attitudes, customs, etc. is language. Language helps individuals to communicate, interpret, evaluate ideas as a member of society, and form a bridge from one specific culture to another. Culture has an important influence on individuals. Individuals from different cultures may respond in different ways to many things even though they speak a common language. The good thing about transformation of culture into another individual is indeed an excellent part of a unifying aspect of any culture. The history of literature is mainly a history of the nourishment of humankind. As a result of this history the nation get exposed and is closely linked with art, culture and literature.

Mark Poster Film Studies and History, UC/Irvine (all rights reserved) Abstract In the globally networked world, strange, unexpected and sometimes amusing events occur. I shall analyze one such happening with the purpose of understanding how the global communication system affects national cultures. It is my hypothesis that the current state of globalization, of which the Internet is a major component, imposes a new and heightened level of interaction between cultures. This interactivity changes each culture in many ways, one of which I highlight: the degree of autonomy of each culture is significantly reduced as a consequence of the global information network. On the one hand, all attempts to sustain such autonomy tend to become retrograde and dangerous. Local beliefs, values, and practices can no longer be held as absolute or as exclusive, at the expense of others. On the other hand, a new opportunity arises for a practical definition and articulation of global, human or better posthuman culture. In short, henceforth, the local is relative and the global may become universal. This universal, unlike earlier attempts to define it or impose it, will be differential, will consist of a heterogeneity of glocal fragments. For the Internet enables planetary transmissions of cultural objects (text, images and sound) to cross cultural boundaries with little “noise.” Communications now transpire with digital accuracy. The dream of the communications engineer is realized as information flows without interference from any point on the earth to any other point or points. Cybernetic theory is fulfilled: both machines and the human body act on the environment through “the accurate reproduction” of information or signals, in an endless feedback loop that adjusts for changes and unexpected events.

Satellite TV puts our rich culture, tradition to dangerous test
Survey reveals changing behavioral pattern of city dwellers "The survey reveals that 55.1 per cent of city dwellers have had a little interactions with family members now what they do have earlier. Now 52.1 per cent respondents have little time on interest to pay social visit, take part in traditional gossip, different ceremonies or family functions." The advent of satellite television in Bangladesh, which is changing the behavioural pattern of city dwellers, threatens the age old values, enriched culture and tradition of the country, a survey revealed here recently, reports BSS.
The survey showed the changes occurred particularly in daily television watching behaviour, day-to-day lifestyle, dress-up, fashion, career plan, use of slang term, in showing respect to the seniors, trend to show off heroism and violence.
Youths, particularly teenagers who are exposed to the international satellite channels with a huge number of violence through household cable connections, are posing serious threats to our culture and tradition, the survey cautioned.
The research survey was jointly conducted by three faculty members Tahmina Akhter, Mohammad Sahid Ullah and Ali Asgar Chowdhury of Journalism Department, Chittagong University under the supervision of Prof M Golam Rahman of the Department of Mass Communication and Journalism of Dhaka University.

Virtual Bangladesh : Politics
Political Parties Bangladesh's political scene has been tumultuous since independence. Periods of democratic rule have been interrupted by coups, martial law, and states of emergency. There is a proverb in Bangla which loosely translates into: If you have two Bengali's you will have three political parties. This is kind of evidenced in the existence of over 100 political parties. Most of these are small, fringe parties formed mostly by a small coterie of like minded intellectuals or politicians who usually have broken away from larger groupings. There is a singular lack of tolerance in the political system where the major opposition parties are often at violent loggerheads. While Bangladesh is a parliamentary democracy with reasonably free and fair elections, opposition to government policies is often displayed through violent demonstrations and enforced strikes ( hartals ). This is irrespective of which party is in power. In recent years the major opposition parties have boycotted parliamentary sessions.

If one is to make a historical survey of Bengali folklore, covering all branches of formalised folklore, such as tales, songs, ballads, proverbs, riddles, charms, superstitions, myths, legends and similar traditional materials, he must be acquainted with social and ethnic conditions of the country.
The folklore of Bangladesh is heavily influenced by different races which were present years ago. The abundant folklore of the present-day Bangladesh, therefore, contains a variety of elements, which is partly to be explained by the historical forces.
Under the British initiative, the study of folklore was advanced primarily by the British civil officers and European missionaries.
After the Sepoy Revolution of 1857, there followed more congenial atmosphere to investigate folklore. In 1858, by a proclamation of Queen Victoria, the administration was transferred from the East India Company to a Viceroy, the representative of the Queen of England. From then on, the English officials before leaving England, were instructed to mix with the Indian people to try to gain their confidence, and also to respect their religions, culture and customs. The officials who came to India were clearly familiar with the anthropology, ethnology and of course, folklore. The officials launched many journals and publications, which richly contained enormous quality of folklore materials.
