Bahrain cracks down on gay migrant workers
By Joshua Dancel The government of Bahrain has begun cracking down on homosexual migrant workers, including those who are Filipino.
Administrator Wilhelm Soriano of the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) said yesterday overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) found to be gay would be deported by Bahrain starting next week.
An Islamic state comprising 33 islands on the western side of the Persian Gulf, Bahrain embraces Islam which bans homosexuality. Its capital and largest city of Bahrain is Manama. Soriano said the Bahraini government has already issued closure notices to about 500 beauty salons, massage parlors, flower and tailoring shops where gays are believed to be employed. "Bahraini police suspected these shops and stores provide haven for illicit homosexual activities and prostitution," he said.

At that time the office was in the Almoayed Building, Government Road, Manama. The main activity was recruiting British teachers for Bahrain's government schools and the Gulf Technical College. In addition, English language classes were held in British Council in the evenings. The teachers recruited for the Bahraini government used to teach in the evenings. The library was popular and exams services were provided.

Latest News... In the name of Allah the most Gracious, the most Merciful,
WE REJECT ALL ILLEGITIMATE AMENDMENTS TO THE CONSTITUTION
In wishing to actively engage in our national issues and in attempting to define our destiny and the destiny of future generations, in acknowledging all the nation’s past sacrifices in times of struggle, in keeping alive the memory of our heroic martyrs, and in carrying out our national and religious responsibilities, we, the Bahraini Students in UK would like to extend our full support of the declarations made at the Constitutional Conference of February 2004. We wholly back the committee established therein to oversee the recommendations made.
As a result of our awareness of the necessity that any changes made to the constitution should be made through the correct legal channels in order to give credibility to any reform process; we commend the popular petition that is due to be launched in April 2004. Such a peaceful and legal initiative only serves as a laudable endeavour to solve the current constitutional crisis that emerged as a result of the illegitimate clandestine amendments made to the constitution by the then Amir in 14/4/2002. Furthermore, we strongly believe that any constitutional amendments should be made in accordance with the principles stipulated in the 1973 constitution, specifically in Article 104. We also take this opportunity to remind the Amir of his declared promise made in February 2001, during his visit to the residence of Sayed Al-Ghuraifi, that the proposed Charter would only be a means of reactivating the 1973 Constitution rather than replacing it.

Governorates Public Societies ... Books About Bahrain The Kingdom of Bahrain is an archipelago of low lying island located in the Arabian Gulf of the eastern shore of Saudi Arabia. Frequently called the Pearl of the Arabian Gulf, Bahrain has a history of more than 5,000 years of civilisation, from the mists of time to a vibrant present under a stable and prosperous government. Bahrain is the site of immortal Dilmun, religious centre to Summerians, Babylonians and Assyrians, as dramatic excavations prove. Subsequent visitors include Greeks from the time of Alexander the Great, Portuguese, Omani's and the English. Marvellous old sites and buildings compete with modern office buildings and colourful traditional markets. While relatively small in population, land area and resources Bahrain has achieved a high level of social and economic development in a short period. The road network, international airport, telecommunications, public services, medical facilities and university are all recognised as being among the best in the world. Although great emphasis is naturally placed on the development of its own citizens, due to its large expatriate population Bahrain has a marvelous multi-national mix of nationalities, all living harmonously together in a completely unique mix of cultures.
