W ith over 30 years of service and the most modern fleet in the western hemisphere Air Jamaica is truly “The World’s Best Airline to the Caribbean.”
A ir Jamaica began operations in 1966 as the first Jamaican based international airline. It was governed by a tripartite agreement between the Government of Jamaica, BWIA, and BOAC (now British Airways). However, on April 1, 1969, Air Jamaica Limited was born with the Government of Jamaica holding majority shares in the airline. Air Canada held a minority interest and provided equipment, technology, training, pilots, and some top management. Then in 1984, the Jamaican Government acquired the airline through a “buy back” agreement with Air Canada. Ten years later, in 1994, the Government of Jamaica embarked on a privatization exercise. The Gordon “Butch” Stewart led Air Jamaica Acquisition Group (AJAG) acquired majority ownership of the national airline with the government retaining a minority stake.
I n 2004, after severe turbulence in the airline industry and massive financial losses, the Government of Jamaica reclaimed full control of the airline.

Britain's slave trade
Further reading Britain and the Slave Trade
Exploring how and why the slave trade grew, this book looks at the controversial role that the West African city-states played in facilitating it. Through contemporary first-hand accounts, it reveals how the business of slavery worked and describes the lives of the slaves, their owners and traders. It shows the pivotal role that the trade played in the Industrial Revolution and the establishment of Britain as a world leader, making a direct link between the barbarities of slavery and the prosperity, culture and diversity that Britain enjoys today.
The Historical Encyclopedia of World Slavery
These two volumes, covering more than 4,000 years of world history, reflect on the impact that slavery has had on humanity.
Black People in the British Empire
The history of exploitation, oppression and underdevelopment perpetrated by British capitalism in the colonies is examined, starting with an account of the British invasion of Ireland in the 12th century and encompassing the Caribbean, India and Australasia.
Africans in Britain

The Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) founded in 1902, is one of the oldest surviving international public health agencies in the World. It promotes and coordinates efforts of countries in the Western Hemisphere to:
  • combat disease lengthen life promote the physical, mental and social health of their people

PAHO is an inter-governmental organization which aims to improve health through ensuring equity of access to the conditions which facilitate good health and to strengthen regional national and local health systems throughout the Americas - from Canada in the north to Argentina in the south, including the islands of the Caribbean. The countries cooperate technically with and among each other with the support of the PAHO Secretariat. While the focus of coordination for cooperation in each country is the Ministry of Health, PAHO collaborates with all relevant governmental ministries and non-governmental organizations whose activities at the national or local level impact on health and development. PAHO collaborates closely with the international community, universities and religious institutions to foster sustainability of successful interventions. For this purpose scientific and technical experts in health are stationed in a network of PAHO country offices and centers in most countries in the Americas.

    introduction
meetings eligibility ... the silver club BRIEF HISTORY OF THE CARIBBEAN SHIPPING ASSOCIATION By Michael S. L. Jarrett The need to establish an effective, broad-based Association to monitor, discuss and share information in support of the growth and development of shipping in the Caribbean was accepted in the 1960s when shipping interests realized that there was much to learn and emulate from the initiatives and strategies employed in neighbouring Caribbean territories to solve similar problems. Specifically, the revolutionary achievements by the Shipping Association of Jamaica (SAJ) in successfully negotiating with hostile unions for the mechanization of the Port of Kingston started a process where port interests across the Caribbean met to exchange ideas. Trinidad, Barbados and Bermuda were experiencing similar problems with their trade unions and delegations from the national shipping associations of these countries visited Jamaica within a short time of each other to discuss and learn from the achievements of the Shipping Association of Jamaica. These discussions forged a relationship between these national associations and in 1969 representatives from five national associations met in Port of Spain for an informal meeting to discuss labour contracts, labour practices and other problems affecting the shipping industry. The meeting was so useful, the group decided to meet again in six months.
