In the men’s team final, New Khan made a fine start by taking the opening singles through 15-12, 10-15, 15-9 victory by Shabbir Hussain over Rizwan Rana. WAPDA evened the scores in the doubles match when the pair of Zeeshan-Rizwan got better of their New Khan partners Shabbir and Nadeem in straight sets by 15-8,15-8. In the third singles, Nauman Sikander of New Khan put his side ahead with a hard-fought 15-10, 9-15, 15-11 win against Mohammad Atique. WAPDA fought back again to square the contest 2-2 when former champion Aamir Islam and Imran Mohib prevailed over Mohammad Ali and Nabeen 15-12, 15-12 to set up a tempting encounter for the title. In the all-important tie-deciding clash, WAPDA’s former national champion Wajid Ali proved his all-round superiority to crush Nabeel 15-6, 15-7 and win the title for the team. The women’s team event contest did not come to the expectations as NBP proved themselves far superior against WAPDA.

document.all('IDM_Category_'.concat(1861)).style.display=''; HCM City take national badminton team tourney 14:25' 03/06/2005 (GMT+7) HCM City proved their status as the top club in Vietnam after winning both titles at the National Badminton Team Championship which finished on Wednesday in the northern province of Bac Giang. HCM City's women took the gold medal and successfully defended their title. In the men's final, HCM City fielded national team players including Vietnam's number one Nguyen Tien Minh who won a bronze medal in the HCM City International Badminton-Robot Cup men's single event last week. The defending champions quickly dispatched the Army team 3-0 in the singles. Tien Minh beat Hoang Hai 2-0 (15-6,15-0); Quang Minh won 2-0 against Chi Dong (15-7,15-3) and Tuan Kiet defeated Van Son 2-0 (15-11,15-3). Bac Giang and Thai Nguyen shared third place. In the women's final, many spectators believed that Thanh Hoa would beat HCM City as they have proven to be a young and talented team which has come on well during the tournament. However, national member Le Ngoc Nguyen Nhung put pay to this belief when she easily defeated former national player Thien Nhan 2-0 (11-7,11-4) in the first match. Her teammate Thanh Thuy crushed Thanh Hoa's Thanh Tam 2-0 (11-8,11-2) in the second match and Hong Gam beat Phan Thi Trang 2-1 (7-11,11-7,11-3) in the third.

OK., so most Americans play badminton in the backyard waiting for the hot dogs to cook.
But that's just us.
For the rest of the world badminton is a big-time, highly competitive gold medal sport at the national, World and Olympic levels.
NBC-TV even gave added coverage to the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens and televised badminton competition - including, for the first time, a good look at the US Olympic Team . Take a look, you'll be surprised.
And like all true world sports, badminton has a competitive branch for adaptive athletes - amps, wheelers, and Les Autres - for recreational play and with regional and national and International competitions. Competitive Divisions Adaptive badminton competitions are held in
Men's and women's singles Men's and women's doubles, and Mixed doubles - in the following categories: Disability below waist/above knee Disability below waist/below knee Disability - upper extremity Wheelchair 1 Wheelchair 2 The USA, however, does not currently have a competitive adaptive badminton team - an "able bodied" competitive team, yes. But not an adaptive team.
