A Description of MIT's Charm School
MIT's Charm School runs for one afternoon during MIT's Independent Activities Period (IAP), a 4-week term in January/February that includes over 700 academic, quasi-academic, and non-academic subjects. This year, Charm School will be held on Friday, January 28, 2005 in the MIT Student Center. The first Charm School took place during IAP '93 and with the exception of 1998, the program has been run annually. The popularity of the event has increased and interest on the part of students played a key role in bringing the program back. Students look forward to Charm School and take it seriously, although they have a good time while doing it. It has become a full-fledged community event with students, staff, and faculty participating together. Faculty often enjoy the event because it gives them an opportunity to interact with students in a different way than they do in the classroom. The success of Charm School is due to many things: the energy and enthusiasm of the faculty, students, and administrators who participate, the festive atmosphere, and it's humorous and irreverent tone.

STUDENT STORE GRAND OPENING!
This week marks the grand opening of the new Millsberry Academy Student Store . The Student Store will be a one-stop shop for all of the Academy students' needs, offering necessary school supplies like writing pads, pencils, and backpacks, in addition to new Millsberry Academy apparel. The official opening will take place on September 15, and the halls of the Academy are buzzing with excitement.
"I can't wait to check out the new Student Store!" said Roberto Chiarello. "I've heard that they're going to sell shirts and caps with the Academy logo on them, which will be a great way to show off school spirit."
Suzie Johnston, an Academy student, has been named this year's store manager. "Our plan is to sell all kinds of things, from school supplies like pencils and notebooks to Millsberry Academy backpacks, t-shirts, and caps!" Suzie, a Metro Park resident, told the Millsberry Gazette . "Everyone should be sure to play lots of games , so that they'll have plenty of Millsbucks to spend on all this cool merchandise!"

Out of print, I would assume. I picked up my copy at a local used CD store for $8.99, but I have never again seen it anywhere else (even on-line). I suppose it could possibly still be available in Austria and/or Germany, but I really don't know. I would recommend checking around for it at any local CD stores that tend to stock a lot of imports, including used CD stores.
    Notes by Shawn
The main point of this compilation CD, from the Rocky Horror standpoint at least, is that it includes "Hot Patootie" from the Rocky Horror Picture Show Soundtrack . This is just one of many "Best of Meat Loaf" type CDs, however this one is fairly good in that it does max out the space on the CD (with a total running time of just over 76 minutes!). It is also a picture disc, with a quite good picture of Meat Loaf on it (though it does make him look rather demonic...somewhat appropriate I think). For more information on Meat Loaf, you can also check out The "Official" Unofficial Meat Loaf Fan Web Site Since this CD was released in Germany, the

    A r c h i v e d I n f o r m a t i o n
Foreword by President George W. Bush
As a former student, the father of two high school graduates, and the husband of a teacher, I've learned many lessons about what makes a school good and an education excellent. The more I see, the more I am convinced of one thing: given the right guidance and motivation, every child can learn and reach his or her potential. Great schools do great works in the life of a child, and I have seen it happen. But we must do more. I am committed to ensuring that the federal role in education serves the children first and foremost and not just the system. My Administration has put forward a plan to Congress titled No Child Left Behind that is based on four principles: (1) accountability for results; (2) local control and flexibility; (3) expanded parental choice; and (4) effective and successful programs. We are pursuing these principles because too many of our schools fail to help every child to learn. As we prepare our children to return to school, we should reflect on how we can improve their education. It's time for our schools to set high standards for what our children should know and be able to do, to give our schools the tools they need to help every child reach those high standards, and to insist that they reach them. We know that every child can learn. Now is the time to ensure that every child does.
