ADVANCED SEARCH AVIATION MUSEUMS ALL OVER THE COUNTRY SCRAMBLE FOR CONCORDE By Richard Moss Left: aeronautical icon. One of seven BA Concordes which may be given to museums in the autumn. Picture courtesy: Newscast Museums the length and breadth of the UK are queuing up to become the final resting place of supersonic legend, Concorde. Following BA's decision and announcement on April 10 to retire its fleet of seven Concordes for commercial reasons, the airline has said the planes are to be given a grand send off before being 'destined for museums'. The announcement has led to a swift reaction from museums with as many as thirty expressing a serious interest in taking one of the aeroplanes. BA say they are now beginning to look "very closely" at each individual claim. "We've had an overwhelming response from museums and members of the public with literally hundreds of letters being sent to our chief executive with ideas and offers," said a BA spokesperson. "People have such fond memories of Concorde, some remember it flying overhead, others have strong local manufacturing connections." Right: BA are taking the supersonic aircraft out of service in October 2003. Picture courtesy: Newscast.

Aviation museums around the country spotlight one of man's greatest inventions Just short of a century ago, two Ohio brothers, using bicycle technology, scientific knowledge, and conviction, launched the first airplane on sustained and controlled flight. So much has happened since those days of chains, gears, and other bike parts that it takes a lot of museums to tell the incredible story. Hundreds of vintage aircraft displays, exhibits, and testimonials to aviation history are scattered across America, including the Wright Brothers National Memorial in Kitty Hawk, North Carolina, and the Smithsonian's National Air and Space Museum in Washington, D.C. Through "flight room talks" by National Park Service rangers at the Wright Memorial, we learn that Orville and Wilbur's scientific approach to the challenge, including two years of glider flights, led to those historic 59 seconds of powered flight on December 17, 1903. And we are awed by the fact that a mere 67 years later two men walked on the moon from a lunar lander like the mockup at the Smithsonian.

Site update 5th May - Rougham Air Show 2004 Review and Photographs added. Site update 10th April - 2005 Events Guide added. Welcome to this site which aims to present a pictorial record of air shows I have attended over the years as well as pictures of major aircraft museum exhibits in the United Kingdom. I hope to be able to add to these pages as time goes on. Each set of photographs are on self-contained sections of the site and are accessible via the drop-down menus on the right hand side of this page. The photographs in these pages tend to reflect my own aviation interest - from the dawn of aviation until the 1950's. If your interest lies in modern aircraft you probably won't find what you are after here! This site is best viewed at a resolution of 1024x768 but photographs are also optimised for 800x600 displays as well. Simply choose the resolution you want from the index pages. I hope that you enjoy the photographs contained in this site. If you have any comments or suggestions for improvements please let me know either via e-mail or by visiting the guestbook. Happy browsing!

Annals of Aviation
This site is primarily about aviation in Washington State. We were pretty poor growing up. We were so poor, that we could not afford real fishing poles. We couldn't afford the kind of fishing poles that could be broken down and carried inside a vehicle. We had to settle for bamboo poles and war surplus (olive green) fishing line. Since these poles could not be broken down, we had to tie them to the side of our airplane. A picture of the airplane is at a link memorializing my father . Help me get a real fishing pole by buying something from me. Check out my personal CD, Book and Garage Sale and the banners throughout this website.
