You now need to assign roles. Remember that you need a 'Webmaster' (this person will put the page together - they will design the layout and 'look' of the page - they will also be responsible for uploading the page onto the school's web site). Other team members will be responsible for the research elements of the team's website (most will be looking for the best sites to link to - one will focus on finding the best image to go on the site (this person will need to write to the owner of the image for the appropriate permission). Your website should focus on providing the links to sites which will give the best help in such matters as:
    • Describing and defining the disaster. Where does it occur? When does it occur? What damage is caused? How is it caused? What can we do to minimise its impact on humans? Can you find records of historical events regarding the incidence of this disaster?

    http://enrin.grida.no/htmls/tadjik/vitalgraphics/eng/html/text_c7.htm
Climate change trends and scenarios METEOROLOGICAL DISASTERS The study of processes resulting from climate change is based not only on the analysis of air temperature, precipitation and snow cover, but also on extreme weather events (high and low temperatures, sandstorms, heavy snowfall and rainfall, floods, mudflows, avalanches, hailstone falls). High temperatures. The zone of an adverse thermal regime (equal to and higher than 40°C) covers the entire plain areas of the republic. On the basis of the analysis of observational data, an upward trend of 30% in the number of days with temperature above 40°C has been identified in almost all the plains of the republic. In 1984, a period of 48 days with temperatures above 40°C was observed in Shaartuz. The least number of days with temperatures above 40°C was observed in 1972. Low temperatures. Daily mean temperatures of air equal and below -10°C are also considered dangerous weather events. The least average number of days in one year with low temperatures is observed in the plains of the territory (0,2-0,8 days), although in some years this number increases up to 5-15 days. The greatest reoccurrence of low temperatures is observed in mountainous areas, especially in low depressions, mountain passes, and tops of high mountain ranges. In foothill areas, the average number of days with low temperature changes from 6 to16 days, and in some years, between 25 to 80 days. In general, the number of days within one year with daily average temperature below -10°C shows a downward trend by 30-50 %.

When you here the word Landslide ! what do you think of? You say you think of a mass of snow, rocks, or wet mud sliding down from a high altitude triggered by a catalyst event? By golly, you're right!
Landslides occur along something called (are you ready?) a plane of structural weakness ! So what, you say? Well, that means that all this muck coming down the side of the mountain, heading straight for you and your dog and your little log shack, is following the path of least resistance. The plane of structural weakness ! is the term for a path, in the mountain, that is relatively free of debris and usually is between the two highest points of the mountain.
Some landslides are called mudflows , and, man, you would never saturation ). Mudflows are so strong sometimes that they carry enourmous boulders down the mountain. If the mudflow is really big, it can destroy nearby towns. I'm not kidding.
Some mudflows are active for years ! Isn't that amazing? It's all part of the really super cool way that Geology works: Volcanoes and converging plates push mountains up, and mudflows and rain tear them back down, bit by tiny bit, over thousands of years, until they are flat. See, without mudflows and

    Research into Disaster Deaths
All the disasters on this page involve an environmental phenomenon. Those not yet listed include:
    • Cold weather and related phenomena such as blizzards, freezing rain, and ice storms. Disease, although many studies exist. Drought, a particularly interesting topic because droughts have different causes. Hail. Lightning Macrobiological hazards Wildfires. Wind.
See General Material or Resources Covering Many Disasters for material covering some of the above. Project Description Disasters are ultimately about the people affected by the event. Work related to researching disasters and trying to reduce their detrimental impacts should be focused on helping people. Disasters affect people both psychologically and physically. Either set of effects, or their combination, can lead to injury and death. One aspect of the vast topic of the health effects of disasters is mortality from specific events and classes of disasters. These studies examine the characteristics of who died along with the causes and circumstances of their deaths. The focus tends to be on people who clearly died as a result of the event because such data are relatively unambiguous.

Floods and Droughts Floods and Flashfloods: Flooding is the most common of all natural hazards, often due to another natural disaster as storms, hurricanes... Flooding happens during heavy rains, when rivers overflow, when ocean waves come onshore, when snow melts too fast or when dams or levees break. Flooding may be only a few inches of water or it may cover a house to the rooftop. Floods that happen very quickly are called flashfloods Types of floods: There are five different types of floods: periodic floods, flash floods, river floods, coastal floods and seasonal floods. Periodic and seasonal floods are the most predictable. They return every month, every year, every two year.... Floods because of smelting water are seasonal floods. See Monsoons, next. River floods and flash floods are not predictable they suddenly happen, usually after a big storm or a dam brake.
