The cooking parties of phase 1 take place all over Austria with the cook, Following the award ceremony for the big austrian cooking star the project
http://www.lomography.com/festkochen/concept.html
The Concept The Lomographic Society and Radio FM4
The cooking parties of phase 1 take place all over Austria with the cook, his friends and the Lomographers, and will be documented vastly with lots of lomographic equipment to elaborate the sensory experience in detail and lomographically decrypt the cooking, eating and partying process. The six categories "old school, spicy, love, royal, free and global" signify inspiring ranks of themes for the dinner and party concepts.
These entries were judged by an exclusive jury, evaluating the selection of guests, the blend of fine fresh food, creations of excellent and characteristic culinary delights, the artistic over-all design of the space and its atmospheric aspects.
In the summer months the 21 selected candidates host their cooking parties, attended by Lomographers and Radio FM4 presenter. All parties are presented online . The winners of each of the 6 categories, selected in phase 2 via online-voting by Lomographers and FM4 audience, shall compete against each other at the grand finale cooking showdown in a Viennese restaurant in September 2003. The 6 chefs will simultaneously cook-in for 50 guests who are being spoilt for choice to nominate the best of the best.
Following the award ceremony for the big Austrian cooking star the project will be perpetuated in a nifty Lomographic "Festkochen" publication including the terrific winner's recipes as well as massive quantities of stories and images of the cooking parties.

The big "Festkochen" (German for: cooking feast, cooking firmly, cooking a good deal) is all but an ordinary cooking competition: We looked for the most incredible cooking maniacs, unique recipes and the wackiest ideas for a special dinner party at home.
We would like to thank Agrarmarkt Austria and the Salinen AG for their generous support.

So many good cooks and wine cellars, so many gread restaurants in such a small space? Unbelievable, you will say. But once you are here you will discover that it's not just the restaurants with the hats that you will be raving about. There are some things waitiong to be discovered here at altitudes of between 1450 and almost 2000 metres above sea level that you would never expect. No matter whether it's fish specialities, Asian cuisine, fondue specialities (meat and cheeseX, bistro delicacies, small snacks, a walk round the corner to the Italian, natural cuisine, game specialities, hearty local dishes, simple home cooking, international cuisine or fine Austrian cooking, enjoyment comes first and foremost in the restaurants here.

Austria
Salzburg

Our Salzburg flights are flown over a magnificent landscape of great natural beauty. We drift through the gently sloping Alpine foothills, over crystal clear lakes, meadow-carpeted valleys in many hues of green, and pretty country villages. Brightly painted onion-domed churches and charming old farmhouses, gaily decorated with masses of flowers in the traditional Austrian style, will slip quietly beneath you. To the south, the permanently snow-covered Alps provide a breathtaking background. It is a thrilling experience. The Austrian people make our visit even more delightful with their friendliness and the warm welcome they give our balloons. They often gather at our landings, frequently wearing their splendid traditional dress.
Your Itinerary
Day One
  • Check in early afternoon at your hotel, the elegant Schloss Fuschl, which will be your home for the next five days. One of the finest hotels in Europe, this striking tower was built in 1450 by the Prince-Archbishops of Salzburg as their private hunting castle and summer residence. Spectacularly perched on a park-like rocky promontory on Lake Fuschl, it is surrounded by natural splendor. The charming setting, together with the friendly and efficient Austrian staff smartly outfitted in their traditional dress, make a lasting impression. Cocktail reception at 3:00 p.m. and departure for balloon flight.

    STAR POWER
Chef Thomas Ferlesch wins over hearts and palates with his new Fort Greene bistro
Beef up: Among the hearty dishes at Thomas Beisl is a pot-au-feu (beef short ribs and marrow bone in a consomme). The Brooklyn Papers / Greg Mango By Tina Barry
for The Brooklyn Papers In 1981, New York Times dining critic Mimi Sheraton bestowed four stars on a 23-year-old chef. The restaurant was Vienna '79, and the honor made Thomas Ferlesch the youngest chef to be awarded quadruple stars in the history of the Times.
After an 11-year, much-heralded stint as executive chef at Cafe des Artistes, Viennese expat Ferlesch swapped the Upper West Side of Manhattan for Brooklyn, decamping to Fort Greene.
"I was walking my children to school one morning, and I noticed this empty space [formerly the New City Bar & Grill] across from the Brooklyn Academy of Music," Ferlesch said. "It had a nice area in the back for a garden. I called the landlord that day."
Fort Greene, not known for its Viennese community, has welcomed Ferlesch's lovingly restored Thomas Beisl ("beisl" means bistro), based on the egalitarian gathering spots he remembered from abroad.
