Australian Aborigines
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.
(Redirected from Australian Aborigine Aboriginal Flag Australian Aborigines is a name used to collectively describe most of the indigenous peoples of the Australian continent and its nearby islands. The term encompasses a large number of diverse communities and societies , with notably different modes of subsistence cultural practices, languages , technologies and inhabited environments. However, these peoples also share a broad set of traits, and are otherwise seen as being related. Aboriginal people from different parts of Australia have their own names for themselves like Anangu Koori Yamaji Noongar ... Murri , etc; these names are specific to various regions (see the note on nomenclature, below). Additionally, there are many more specific designations based on language, clan , community and location. By the late 18th century , there were anywhere between 350-750 distinct groupings and a similar number of languages and dialects. At the start of the 21st century , only some 200+ Australian Aboriginal languages were still in use, all but approximately 20 of which are endangered to a greater or lesser extent.

http://www.ausflag.com.au/flags/flags.html
Ausflag believes that debate about any new Australian flag is better served with an understanding of the history and symbolism of our current flags. As part of Ausflag's contribution to informed debate about the Australian national flag, we have compiled what we believe to be one of the most exhaustive information databases on Australia's flags of the past and present. We have been careful to present all relevant information about the history of each flag, relying upon authoritative written sources and historical records wherever possible (see our references ). However, in the absence of reliable, verified historical data, some accounts are open to debate and interpretation. Ausflag welcomes any direction to authoritative references that allow us to correct or improve this database of one of the most fascinating areas of Australia's history. The links below take you to our pages on Australia's National, State, Territory and other flags. These pages contain flag animations, so if you are on a slow internet link, you may jump directly to the page on a specific flag by using the text links at the bottom of the page. The remaining parts are available at the following links: Part 1: Competing political agendas Part 2: The establishment of the Australian nation-state Part 3: The doctrine of "White Australia" Part 4: From "White Australia" to Geoffrey Blainey ... Part 9: Windschuttle's liberal critics ; and Part 10: Private property, the nation state and socialism The new orientation to Asia The Labor government was responding directly to international pressures. A crisis of profitability for the global capitalist system had brought an end to the long post-war boom. Under these conditions, the violent free market programs of the Reagan and Thatcher governments, accompanied by deep-going attacks on the working class and trade union movement, set the new policy framework which would eventually be followed by all governments, whatever their political colouration. Any illusions that a social democratic government could hold on to the previous program of Keynesian economic policies and national regulation were quickly dispelled by events in France. The Mitterrand government was engulfed in crisis almost immediately upon being returned to office in 1981. Within a space of less than two years, its program of nationalisation and Keynesian measures had disintegrated.

Dharug people in C18th Sydney "Their laws, especially with regard to marriage, are complex and wonderful. Their corroborees, or festival dances, are very wonderful. Their sagacity, especially on the tracking of men or cattle, is very wonderful. The skill with which they use the small appliances of life which they possess is very wonderful. But for years, probably for many centuries, they have made no progress, and the coming of the white man among them has had no tendency to civilise - only a tendency to exterminate them.”
    Anthony Trollope Australia
Dharug people today By 1788 around 500 Aboriginal tribes or nations occupied the Australian landmass, with efficient and sustainable systems for living off the land. They achieved a balanced diet by hunting and gathering, moving seasonally between camps as food supplies dictated. Fire was used methodically to burn old growth and encourage new. Being mobile, possessions were minimal. They had complex religious beliefs, sophisticated social relationships and trading links across the continent.

In the (Northern Territory) indications show aboriginals may have inhabited Australia for more than 116,000 to 176,000 years and they had arrived by watercraft. Australia has always been separated by at least 60 kilometres of water since the glacial maximum of 140,000 years ago - yet bushfires could have easily alerted those living north of the continent of its existence.
    Aboriginals inhabited Sydney region
The Sydney region, referred then by the local aborigines as Warrane, itself has been inhabited for at least 50,000 years. Only recently have 50,000 year old grindstones been found in the area, predating any previous finds worldwide. Does this mean bread-making was invented here?
    European Exploration
The west and north coast of Australia had been visited quite frequently by Europeans in the 17th century. The east coast was first charted by Europeans, in 1770, by the well known Pacific explorer, Captain James Cook. On April 29, 1770, on Possession Island he claimed the whole east coast for King George III and called it New South Wales. The British did nothing about their new aquisition till after a number of years, when at the urgings of Joseph Banks (the botanist with the Cook expedition), decided to establish a colony in this far flung corner of the earth.

In the Flinders Ranges, Ted Coulthard, Davey Ryan and Henry Wilton were most active. By placing objects in historical perspective and context, we get a better understanding of the artistic achievements of little-known individuals whose works might otherwise have remained unrecognised. From the early 1800s, Aboriginal people created artworks that document the history of their interaction with European settlers. The oldest such item in the Australian Museum collection was acquired near Wagga Wagga in 1865. Aboriginal people made boomerangs, shields, spear throwers, clubs, walking sticks, stock whip handles and other objects which they decorated with engraving, painting and pokerwork. The design s show Aboriginal links to their land and traditional cultural practices. They also show contact situations and chart changing circumstances brought about by European settlement.

The goal of this website is to help better the understanding of the ASCA Breed Standard of the Australian Shepherd.
The Australian Shepherd's primary purpose is that of a stock dog, able to take on multiple, utilitarian ranch tasks from moving livestock over large acreage to close-in pen work, requires endurance as well as lightning-quick agility.
These same traits serve the breed in other areas of performance such as Agility, Search and Rescue, Frisbee and Flyball competitions. Correct structure is just as desirable in the family pet as it is in the best ranch dog or top conformation competitor. I hope that this site is able to impart something of value to the Aussie owner, breeder, exhibitor and judge
