the geography ..... The climate in Australia is varied and ranges from tropical to sub alpine. Australia is also the oldest land mass on earth and the most eroded of all continents, the nearby island state of Tasmania being the exception. This vast land mass is also the most stable of all continents, with few major fault lines. This means that Australia lacks high mountains such as what you find in neighbouring New Zealand. However all the eons of erosion have formed some of the strangest geographical features on earth, such as Ayers Rock in the Northern Territory or the Bungle Bungle Mountains and The Pinnacles of Western Australia.
Australia is also the driest inhabited continent on earth, but the eastern seaboard where the majority of the population is concentrated, is a lush and fertile area, with a climate ranging from temperate to tropical. The main mountain range is known as the Great Dividing Range or Eastern Highlands. This long mountain chain separates the green eastern seaboard from the barren Outback. The southern end of the Great Dividing Range has an area known as the Snowy Mountains, or otherwise known as the Australian Alps. This area actually receives more snow than Switzerland, and is the only area suitable for skiing in Australia. Australia also contains many pockets of tropical and temperate rain forest on the eastern coast, but the predominate forest in Australia is Eucalypti Forest or more commonly known as Gum Trees.

    Australian Geography
Australia is a land of contrasts: sweeping golden beaches, coral reefs rich with marine life, tropical rainforests, mountain ranges, vast grazing lands and sparse deserts. One of the oldest continents, Australia is as wide as the distance from Kuala Lumpur to Taipei and as long as the distance from Singapore to Manila. It is the only country to occupy an entire continent. Surrounded by the Indian and Pacific Oceans, Australia has many animals and plants, which are unique on the planet. The surface geology is typically old and flat.

South Australia - SA Adelaide, capital of South Australia, is often referred to as Australia's cultural capital, having a gracious old-world feel with many stone buildings reflecting the State's prosperous history. Adelaide's proudest claim is its quality of life with beautiful hills and beaches less that a half hour's drive from the city centre. The South Australian landscape varies from lush farmland to desert. One hour's drive to the north of Adelaide is the fertile Barossa Valley, which produces more than 30 percent of Australia's 445 million litres of wine. Inland there are three large lakes—Eyre, Gardiner and Torrens. Other geographic features include the Murray River and the Flinders and Mount Lofty Ranges. Climate - mediterranean Summer - hot, dry summer and mild spring 16–30°C (60–86°F)
