OVERVIEW OF AUSTRALIA (1991)
Australia is the only country in the world which is a continent in itself. The land area is more than 2,967,000 square miles, about the same size as the continental United States. This continent is located southeast of Asia and lies between the Indian and Pacific Oceans. Australia is south of the equator and the closest nations to its shores are New Guinea, New Zealand, and Indonesia. One outstanding feature of Australia is the fact that mountain ranges extend all around the outer edge of the continent; however, the highest mountain is only 7,300 feet, which is not high compared to some in the United States. The area of land between the mountain ranges and the coastline serves as the host for most of the 17 million people of the country. Among Australia's many beautiful beaches, the most famous is the Great Barrier Reef which is noted for its coral formations. The interior of Australia has a large plateau which occupies almost three-fourths of the nation. However, one-third of the country is not suited for habitation and another one-third cannot be closely settled because of low rainfall. Australia has the second largest desert in the world which is called the Simpson Desert. Because of its geographical position and the absence of high mountains, Australia has a more temperate climate than other countries in corresponding latitudes. The warmer climate is located in the northern part of the country while the colder climate is in the south. The seasons are reverse of that in the United States.

What is mythology?
Myths are generally stories based on tradition and legend designed to explain the universal and local beginnings (" creation myths and "founding myths"), natural phenomena, inexplicable cultural conventions, and anything else for which no simple explanation presents itself. Not all myths need have this explicatory purpose, however. Likewise, most myths involve a supernatural force or deity , but many simple legends and narratives passed down orally from generation to generation have mythic content. The Brothers Grimm demonstrated that there is mythic content embedded even in the least promising fairy tales A fairy tale itself is not a myth. Other examples of materials with mythic content that are not themselves myths:

This is true – as it is of many cultures. However, we shouldn’t fall into the trap of imagining that Australian Aboriginal cosmology is somehow incomprehensible to contemporary westerners and it would be wrong to overestimate the problems they encounter in this respect; even if the details of pre-European Australian astronomy, both physical and mythological. are dramatically different from western traditions, the principles of its mystical cosmology are familiar to any student of western esotericism. For example, as described by Philip Clarke, ‘The perceived existence of the Heavens as an analogue of the terrestrial landscape is common across Australia’ and ‘The Skyworld was perceived as a place where greater knowledge could be attained’. Hugh Cairns and D.F. Branagan have developed a theory of sky-mapping, according to which, ‘at certain places and times, Aboriginal people used such markings [paintings and carvings] in relation to day-to-day living, survival techniques, story culture and ceremonial life’.

1. What stands up for myths... History of mankind represents only brief instant in a life evolution on the Earth. However this "instant" has special interest for us as representatives of this mankind. In its research the modern historical science is limited basically only to that period of time for which more or less authentic written sources were kept, and it names indulgently and scornfully previous period as "prehistoric". But the history of human civilization began much more before occurrence of writing to what numerous archaeological data testify. However archeology itself gives frequently only sketchy and indirect material, not allowing to combine uniform and complete picture comparable with that the history of "written" period gives. At the same time there is a huge seam of cultural heritage as myths and transmitted orally legends where described events concern to times much earlier than writing was born. Unfortunately, one of characteristic of those sources is their saturation both almost mystical events and characters which magic and supernatural abilities obviously not blend with modern scientific picture of the world. Therefore the official historical science practically does not consider overwhelming majority of stories and legends, having imposed on them a brand of "myth" and having equated them to inventions and to stretch of ancient people imagination. But is oral ancient heritage so far from the real past?..

Is there a genetic origin to male dominance? F.J.J. BUYTENDIJK, De Vrouw, Utrecht 1961, pgs. 81ff; 162-163. This different disposition has also been remarked by psychologists in the observation of children. Before boys and girls can have been inHuenced by prejudices of the culture to which they belong, they already show contrary attitudes to their environment. Generally speaking boys play more roughly, show more aggression, are more inclined to be obstinate, are more easily given to violence. Girls yield more easily and avoid physical fighting. They prefer quiet games and are more affectionate. These findings have been confirmed by studies in different social milieus and culture.
