Atmospheric Chemistry Glossary
2005 Version The definitions in this glossary were initially generated by the students in a senior level class studying air quality and atmospheric chemistry at Sam Houston State University during the spring of 1995 in a course entitled Environmental Science 440/Chemistry 442, AIR QUALITY. In the main, they wrote these definitions as part of a class requirement. The references found at the end of most entries are an effort to supply additional resources for each of the terms. No supposition of comprehensiveness or absolute correctness can be assumed in any way. Many of the glossary entries have hypertext links to other sites on the InterNet. These external links were valid in the Spring semester of 2005 and are updated and augmented each year. The 2005 version was created in the tenth year for this project and is dedicated to the SHSU Air Quality students who are its authors.

(ppt): Time evolution of the surface ozone increase of the 1890 background. Time slices are shown for 1910, 1930, 1950, 1970, 1990, 2050 and 2100.
In this study, we have performed a set of simulations to detail the evolution of tropospheric ozone from 1890 to 1990. Using our best estimates of ozone precursors emissions (based on the work by van Aardenne et al. (2001)), we have found a tropospheric ozone burden increase of 71 Tg between 1890 and 1990, an increase of approximately 30%. In addition we have shown that the surface ozone concentration has considerably increased, especially over the highly- industrialized regions. In addition, we have extended this analysis into the future (2050 and 2100) using the IPCC SREs A2 scenario.

Aims and Scope
Atmospheric Chemistry and Physics ACP ) is an international scientific journal dedicated to the publication and public discussion of high quality studies investigating the Earth's atmosphere and the underlying chemical and physical processes. It covers the altitude range from the land and ocean surface up to the turbopause, including the troposphere, stratosphere and mesosphere. The main subject areas comprise atmospheric modelling, field measurements, remote sensing, and laboratory studies of gases, aerosols, clouds and precipitation, isotopes, radiation, dynamics, biosphere interactions, and hydrosphere interactions (for details see

Atmospheric Chemistry Lab The Stevens Research Group Home People Research Publications ... Indiana University Research in our group focuses on the characterization of the chemical mechanisms in the atmosphere that influence regional air quality and global climate change. An accurate understanding of this chemistry is essential to assess, control and predict the impact of anthropogenic perturbations on the chemical and radiative properties of the atmosphere. Research projects in our group involve laboratory experiments that isolate important chemical reactions and field measurements and computer modeling of the atmosphere.

Welcome!
W e are a multidisciplinary group of researchers concerned with understanding the fundamental factors (both natural and anthropogenic) which determine the chemical composition of the Earth's atmosphere. O ur major research interests include quantifying and modeling emissions of atmospheric trace gases from global energy production and use, large-scale agroecosystems, tundra and boreal forest ecosystems, and tropical areas subject to deforestation. We are also studying the chemistry of aerosols and reactive nitrogen, examining their distribution in the global troposphere, and investigating heterogeneous interactions in the middle and upper troposphere.

PLEASE NOTE:
Much of the science that had been planned for the Atmospheric Chemistry Program (ACP) will, in the future, be conducted under the Department of Energy's Atmospheric Science Program http://www.asp.bnl.gov . Beginning in Fiscal Year 2005, research will focus on radiative forcing of climate change by atmospheric aerosols. Please refer to the ASP web site for more information.
The Atmospheric Chemistry Program (ACP) is a Global Change Research program sponsored by the Environmental Sciences Division of the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE)
The overall objective of the ACP is to provide DOE with advanced information on the atmospheric environment that is required for long-range energy planning. The research is carried out primarily at four DOE laboratories and approximately twelve universities and non-DOE labs. The thrusts of this research are on regional and continental chemistry and fate of tropospheric air pollutants, extracontinental and global chemistry and fate of tropospheric air pollutants, and aerosol genesis. Laboratory studies emphasize rate and equilibrium processes. Field studies are conducted with aircraft and surface measurements on reaction chemistry, advective influences on the chemical composition of chemistry, and air-surface exchange processes. Modeling efforts address both chemistry and dynamics on regional and global scales.
