2004 Barton Men's Soccer Team (by Visual Sports) 2005 Barton College Men's Soccer Preview The Bulldogs completed their 10th season of play at the NCAA Division II level last season and the record shows that the Bulldogs produced eight winning seasons and an overall record of 93-72-14 during that period. Barton started slow in 2004, but won its last five Carolinas-Virginia Athletics Conference (CVAC) games to finish 6-3-1 in league play and earn a ranking in the Southeast Region.
A young group of forwards will be led by junior Scott Summers, who earned CVAC Player of the Week honors during the 2004 season. Summers has speed which allows him to get behind defenses and create scoring chances. Sophomore Jon Anderson returns and new signee Hector Bermudez, who scored 100 goals in his high school career, will get the chance to contribute immediately. In addition to Ruhl, Thompson, and Onyeador, the Bulldogs have a wealth of talent in the midfield. Randol Mendoza, a U.S. Youth Soccer Association Region III pool player as a youth, was greatly hampered by injuries in his initial season with the Bulldogs last fall. In spring competition he stayed healthy and began to show his outstanding ability as an attacking midfielder. Chad Sanders and B.J. Graf will provide additional experience in the midfield and newcomers Tony Fana, Jovany Angeles, and Steven Shortt have potential.
