Welcome to Galatians 4:16! 'Now am I your enemy because I tell you the truth?' - Galatians 4:16 (New Century Version) Galatians 4:16 is a Christian website run by myself, Andre Brett. It is to provide assistance to the Christian church, and those interested in Christianity, by providing articles about various aspects of the Christian faith, along with apologetics articles against various false beliefs.
Please note that you may freely quote from and distribute the articles. I only have one request: could you please acknowledge myself as the author (except in the case of guest authors, when I request you acknowledge them)? Thank you. And if anything develops as a result of using these articles - for example, someone converts to Christianity - it would be fantastic if you could share the good news (it is always nice to know that your work has had a positive affect on someone!).
This site is divided into sections for your ease, and below is a list of them, with a short description.
Basic Christianity
- this section contains articles on basic elements of Christianity and the Christian faith, such as 'Who Is God?' and 'Salvation'.
Atheism
- this section not only contains information on, and apologetics against atheism, but also provides articles proving God is real.

123. Jesus' Ethics?
An argument that Jesus' moral teachings are in large part irrelevant, indefensible, or not original to him. The otherworldliness, harshness, and insistence on unthinking obedience, and meanspirited vindictiveness are not only unacceptable, but quite a long ways from the claim of moral perfection. What's more, his silent approval of things like slavery make him an unjustified model of morality.

Bertrand Russell In conclusion, there is a marvelous anecdote from the occasion of Russell's ninetieth birthday that best serves to summarize his attitude toward God and religion. A London lady sat next to him at this party, and over the soup she suggested to him that he was not only the world's most famous atheist but, by this time, very probably the world's oldest atheist. "What will you do, Bertie, if it turns out you're wrong?" she asked. "I mean, what if uh when the time comes, you should meet Him? What will you say?" Russell was delighted with the question. His bright, birdlike eyes grew even brighter as he contemplated this possible future dialogue, and then he pointed a finger upward and cried, "Why, I should say, 'God, you gave us insufficient evidence.'" Morality and Atheism
by Ed. Stoebenau and Charles W. Johnson
Last revised 29 January 1998
Introduction
One claim that theists make often in #atheism is that one cannot both accept atheism and objective moral standards at the same time. They feel that at least one of these two views is true: objective moral standards prove that God exists, or that if there is not a God, then there cannot be objective moral standards. This paper serves a few purposes. First, it directly shows that there are differing views on morality between atheists. One of the writers is a moral subjectivist ; the other is a moral objectivist. In the first half, Charles Johnson defends a subjective view of morality. In the second half, Ed. Stoebenau defends a view that atheism and objective morality are consistent; one can accept both and still be ration in these respects. This paper shows that the moral argument for theism can be defeated in both of its premises: either there are not objective moral standards or they do not need to be from a deity.
Note
The views expressed in the first part of the essay are no longer the views of the author of that part (Charles Johnson); indeed, he's changed his mind to almost precisely the opposite. However, this essay has been left online in order to ensure that links to it continue to work, and for reading interest. - CWJ, 27 May 2002

Abby Aaron reviews the major flaws of atheism.
http://petitecute.home.att.net/flaws.htm
For Christians
ATHEISM’S THIRTEEN BIGGEST FLAWS
(Revised and Updated) At the time of this writing, approximately ten percent of the world’s population is atheistic, that is, they don’t belive in the existence of a Supreme Being. Depending on where you live, the odds of your running into an atheist might be greater or less that that, and the chances that you will know that quality about him will probably be even smaller. Atheism, like conservatism or liberalism, is a private decision, and unless he has a reason to let you know his position on the subject, he’s perfectly within his rights to keep the matter to himself. Or he might be among those who feel the need to openly express their atheism, whether it be for the purpose of constructively sharing ideas or trying to convince you to change your own beliefs. Over the past five years, I’ve spent a considerable portion of my free time discussing and debating politics and religion on Internet message boards. During such exchanges, I have learned that atheists tend to gravitate toward a collection of basic arguments, both offensive and defensive, that they feel best supports their conclusion that there is no God. On the surface, some of these arguments appear quite good and even potentially convincing. But on closer examination, they each fall apart, usually of their own weight. Below is a short list of arguments that atheists often use when either defending their own belief system or criticising those of Christians. Each is followed by my own counter-argument, explaining why their reasoning—and ultimately their conclusion about God—is flawed.

Responding to the claim by the religious that atheism is just another belief system.
http://www.atheistfoundation.org.au/belief.htm
Home About Us Articles Membership ... Site Map ATHEIST FOUNDATION OF AUSTRALIA INC IS ATHEISM A BELIEF? by David Nicholls It is reasonably common for religious persons and others to class Atheists as those that have a “belief” system. It is taken for granted that the Atheist's "belief" system is somewhat different from a “belief” in the supernatural and sundry. Proponents of such loose use of the language would wish to bring Atheists down to their level of accepting un-evidenced dogma. They then “reason” that it is far better to have a “belief” in that which has some perceived beneficial or “moral” good than that which is “godless” and therefore immoral. How very wrong, incorrect and opposite to the truth is that thought.
The Macquarie Encyclopedic Dictionary definition of “belief” is:
1. that which is believed; an accepted opinion.
2. conviction of the truth or reality of a thing, based upon grounds insufficient to afford positive knowledge:
Most other Dictionaries tender similar definitions.

136. EXPOSING THE ATHEIST
Takes the strong line that atheists reject God in full knowledge that he is real, seeking to expose the true satanic nature of atheism.
http://www.tencommandments.org/heathens.shtml
EXPOSING THE ATHEIST The following articles are samplings of principles that demonstrate that atheism is pure heathenism and error. They present some of the reasons why you should turned away from atheism and nonbelief - to a staunch belief in the Almighty GOD. I ask you to examine these articles very carefully. The best way to understand the nature of atheism is to understand its author. satan is its author. It's important to remain conscious of the fact that satan had his origin in heaven, and is thoroughly familiar with the fact of the existence of God, heaven, the angels, hell and etc. Thus despite what you have been previously deceptively taught and despite the deceptive dictionary's meaning of atheism, atheism is properly defined as a denial of the existence of God in the midst of full knowledge that the true God does indeed exist. Atheism knows God exists; it is quite familiar with that fact, but it says "under no circumstance or situation will I admit to God's existence." Atheism clearly perceives the fingerprints of God on all of creation, but refuses to admit He is the Creator. Atheism perceives the divine authorship of the TEN COMMANDMENTS, but refuses to admit that God is their Author. Atheism perceives the decorousness and perfection of the TEN COMMANDMENTS, but refuses to admit they are superior to all other laws. Atheism clearly perceives the divinity of the Lord Jesus Christ, but refuses to admit His divinity. If an atheist could see the wounds in the body of Christ and actually feel them with his hands, he would deny that the wounds are there. Atheism is deliberate effort to never admit the existence of God.

Philosophy of Religion Nonbelief as Support for Atheism Theodore M. Drange

tdrange@wvu.edu
ABSTRACT: Atheism of a certain sort can be supported by appeal to the existence of widespread nonbelief in God. This is shown by a Canadian philosopher, J. L. Schellenberg, in his book Divine Hiddenness and Human Reason. His argument is as follows: (1) If there is a God, he is perfectly loving.
(2) If a perfectly loving God exists, reasonable nonbelief does not occur.
(3) [But] reasonable nonbelief occurs.
In this paper I shall first raise some objections to the argument and then try to show how it might be improved. Objections (A) Irrelevance of the term "reasonable" (B) Premise (1) Premise (1) should be rejected because there are theists who do not view God as perfectly loving. Even some Christians think of him as an angry deity bent on punishing people for their sins. Consider for example the biblical god who ordered the total annihilation of the Amalekites (including all their children and animals), or one who would predestine some of his creatures to eternal torment in hell (as commonly believed). Such a deity is not perfectly loving. The property of being perfectly loving is too specific, which is why lexicographers usually omit it in their definitions of "God." To get around this, Schellenberg should put his argument forward only in relation to theists who already think of God as perfectly loving and so would accept his first premise.
