Welcome to my Astronomy pages!
This is a collection of information I find valuable and convenient to document, generally with a southern skies slant. Your mileage may vary! This site is not intended to be a diary of events (there are already too many of those out there). You will find information related to software, observations and equipment, and links to other interesting sites.
Astro Info
This is the best FREE astronomy software for your Palm AI(Astro Info) provides comprehensive data on objects in our solar system as well as catalogues of all types of interstellar objects. This makes AI an invaluable tool for planning and observing with handy features such as showing objects currently above the horizon. AI is available in American English, Russian and German languages. The next release will add an International English version. The links below point to other web sites. This open source software is developed using the facilities at SourceForge. ^ Top of Page ^

Solscape X 2.0
by John Schilling
Donationware ($20)
Mac OS X This application for Mac OS X grabs current images from various sources on the Net. By clicking the buttons at the top of the window, you will get a list of sources and images. You can download and display images of the Sun, Earth, Aurora info, and more. Yes, you could visit each of the web sites where these images are available but Solscape does all that for you. You can save the images to your hard disk. One really nice feature is that as you resize the main window, the image resizes as well. You can configure it to download images at startup and/or download specific images every X minutes. If you have a full-time connection to the Internet, you can configure it and just keep it open all the time. If, like me, you have a Coronado PST (or other solar viewing capabilities) or you want to track Aurora visibility, check out this application. I think you will like it. It is available via the MacUpdate web site.

Release 0.7.1 irons out some bugs that surfaced when 0.7.0 went public. Your location coordinates will now be saved from within the program, among other bugfixes. And with this version 0.7, some interesting Stellarium scripts are appearing. Have a look in the forum to see what people are doing, or share your own scripts. [8-sept-2005]
A new version has been released! Version 0.7.0 is the result of almost a year of development. Check out the changelog to see what's new, and tell us what you think. Updates to the FAQ will follow shortly. Thanks to the team for the many improvements in this version. Stellarium is now scriptable, new languages have been added, mouse dragging is available... explore, and enjoy! [2-sept-2005]
Stellarium has attracted a new developer: Tony is working to implement some ideas in the user interface. Some of his work will already be in version 0.7.0 of Stellarium, which is now only days away from release (if everything goes according to plan). Your encouragement is, as always, appreciated!

Astronomy
by Michael Mace, PalmSource employee I have an 8-inch Celestron scope and I've used it for a lot of observing and a little astrophotography. When I started using a Palm Powered handheld, I found a lot of software available to help me observe. Not only are there great star-charting programs, but there are also programs that help you track and identify satellites, use your handheld in the dark without ruining your night vision, point your telescope automatically, calculate the positions of all the planets (and the moons of Jupiter), and a lot more. Software There are four general-purpose Palm OS® astronomy programs Astromist Planetarium , and Star Pilot . All are interactive electronic star atlases, with a variety of features. Each has its own strengths, and different people prefer different ones. They all have demo modes, so you can try them at no cost. But you must pay to use the full versions, and I strongly encourage you to do so these are professionally-made programs that took an enormous amount of work to create, and the developers deserve to be paid for their effort.
