THE PHYSICS SUPERMARKET
”We have used Skyglobe for about 5 years now. It is an integral part of our Science course in years 8, 9 and 10. We encourage the students to have their own laptops so it is a special tool in the study of Astronomy. Thank you very much for providing such a valuable teaching program. Our lessons are more exciting, the students are learning difficult concepts so much easier and it is an enjoyable part of learning.”
Keith Treschman
The Glennie School
Toowoomba
Australia
The exercises are designed to be completed by the student while sitting at a computer running Skyglobe. They can be completed by typing directly into the Word file or it can be printed first and answers handwritten. No introductory lessons are required. Whole class discussions are needed, to revise work and provide further explanation of the finer points covered.
The Astronomy Exercises page has a description of each exercise. Two exercises contain a link for downloading so you can become familar with the style and content of what we have to offer.
Experience shows that the package is suited to extending above average ability students in Year 10 Science and for schools who require all students to have a Notebook Computer. The concepts covered and the style of thinking developed is of great benefit to the students who move on to Physics in the senior years.

Credit: Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory Catching neutrinos from the Sun. The Sudbury Neutrino Observatory (SNO) is hardly your average physics experiment: buried in a 2000 meter deep mine in Ontario and filled with 1000 tons of heavy water, its purpose is to catch neutrinos, spritely particles which form in the center of the Sun and usually fly through the Earth without being captured. Recent results from this experiment have solved a long-standing discrepancy; we now know that the number of neutrinos observed from the Sun is equal to the predictions of theoretical nuclear physics and that neutrinos can oscillate between three different "flavors" during the course of their trip.
