Watt a Cock Up
As has now been widely reported, Bill Moyers has apologised to Reagan Cabinet and Assemblies of God member James Watt over a bogus quote. While making a speech at Harvard Medical School, Moyers said Remember James Watt, President Ronald Reagan's first secretary of the interior? My favorite online environmental journal, the ever-engaging Grist, reminded us recently of how Watt told the U.S. Congress that protecting natural resources was unimportant in light of the imminent return of Jesus Christ. In public testimony he said, 'after the last tree is felled, Christ will come back'. The Washington Post recently ran a piece making the same allegation. Alas, Watt never said any such thing, although he was, notoriously , the head of the anti-environmentalist Mountain States Legal Foundation before joining Reagan's staff. And (this was news to me), a real quote from Watt that is often used to show his anti-environmentalism (and, by association, Reagan’s apocalypticism) was taken out of context: I do not know how many future generations we can count on before the Lord returns.

Bush's Katrina Prayer Service In Washington To Include T-D Jakes
WASHINGTON

After addressing the nation tonight from New Orleans, President Bush is to attend a Friday morning service for victims of Hurricane Katrina at Washington National Cathedral. One of the nation's leading black ministers, Bishop T-D Jakes of Dallas, is to deliver the sermon. Jakes accompanied the president on a recent visit to hurricane relief sites in Louisiana. Bush has declared Friday a National Day of Prayer and Remembrance, urging "all Americans to pray to Almighty God and to perform acts of service." His White House proclamation quotes Jesus' call to feed and shelter those in need. President Bush attended a similar prayer service at the National Cathedral in 2001, a few days after the Nine-Eleven terror attacks.

Preaching for points Teenagers compete in short sermons at church gathering By Jean Torkelson, Rocky Mountain News
August 3, 2005
Just like grown-up preachers, they battled balky microphones, murky notes and the occasional memory freeze. But in one key category - brevity - 500 teenagers competing Tuesday to deliver their best sermon had the elders beat hands down. "April 26, 1991 is a day that forever changed my life," began Tony Weaver, 17, addressing an audience of about 100 during the first round of "short sermon" matches at the Assemblies of God general council. The national gathering of 30,000 members closes Saturday at the Colorado Convention Center. Advertisement GetAd('31', false, 'c1', 250, 250, 'RELIGION_ARTICLE_DETAIL', '');

    T he word "church" can mean a building, or those who congregate and worship there. Here in FECHA, "church" means "community"-one linked by the technology of electro-space. By simply logging on to this site, you have joined our congregation. Feel free to explore the many "rooms" and levels of FECHA, dedicated to the recognition and celebration of the power of focused electrons thru the ages. Does FECHA seek converts? Hardly. We don't wish to turn you away from your religious beliefs or traditions. We see all religions as part of human history; all churches as temporal extensions of their founders' particular visions of a power greater than themselves. We hope that you will come to accept, and participate in, this exciting electronic connection. No matter which religion we embrace, we are all made of electrons. That is our linkage. That is our heritage. That is our destiny. That is our Church: FECHA. Catholicism T Hinduism A Islam I slam has 840 million followers around the world. It was founded by the prophet Mohammed, who received the holy scriptures of Islam, the Koran, from Allah (God) c. A.D. 610. Islam (Arabic for "submission to God") maintains that Mohammed is the last in a long line of holy prophets, preceded by Adam, Abraham, Moses, and Jesus. In addition to being devoted to the Koran, followers of Islam (Muslims) are devoted to the worship of Allah through the Five Pillars: the Statement: "There is no god but God, and Mohammed is his prophet;" Prayer, conducted five times a day while facing Mecca; the giving of alms; the keeping of the fast of Ramadan during the ninth month of the Muslim year; and the making of a pilgrimage at least once to Mecca, if possible. The two main divisions of Islam are the Sunni and the Shiite. The Wahabis are the most important Sunni sect, while the Shiite sects include the Assassins, the Druses, and the Fatimids, among countless others.

Freemasonry is a Non-Christian
Occult Religion
Freemasonry goes by many names, including the Scottish Rite, Masonry, Blue Lodge, Eastern Star (for women), and Shriners. Historically, Masonry has had a strong unifying effect on the American black community. Many people who consider themselves Christians, both black and white, are Masons. Most people, even many Masons incorrectly believe that Masonry is merely a fraternal order, like the Lions Club, Elks Club, etc. Masonry expressly denies it is a religion. Nothing could be further from the truth. Freemasonry is a non-Christian occult religion that teaches a different way to salvation and considers Jesus, Buddha, Confucius, and all spiritual leaders to be only messengers of "The Grand Architect of the Universe". The Grand Architect is not just another term for Jehovah. Freemasonry teaches that there are two basic Gods: Adonay, the god of the Christians , a god of evil and Lucifer , a separate god of good Freemasonry considers the religious scriptures of all religions to be equally valid. Masonry has at least 33 degrees (the lowest is level 1). At each level, a person is given more details, more Masonic 'truth'. Most Masons never get beyond the first few levels.

    Adherents.com presents:
    The Largest Assemblies of God Communities
    The religious fellowship known as the Assemblies of God is the principle organized heir to the Pentecostal movement. Modern Pentecostalism began in Topeka, Kansas, in January 1901, and soon spread to Los Angeles and other parts of the United States. Participants of the early Pentecostal movement were usually not welcomed back into their churches and they formed separate, independent congregations throughout the country. Despite their sincerity, Pentecostalists were frequently derided as heretical and non-Christian by ministers of older Protestant denominations. In 1913 a Pentecostal publication, the Word and Witness , called for the various Pentecostal churches to band together for fellowship, doctrinal unity, and to share resources for missionary work, religious training, etc. A national meeting of representatives from independent Pentecostal churches was held in Hot Springs, Arkansas, in April 1914, at which the name "Assemblies of God" was adopted. In this meeting, a somewhat loose organizational structure was conceived in which most aspects of church life are controlled by the local church, yet many key doctrines and practices are standardized throughout the fellowship. (For example, all assemblies are required to adhere to the "Statement of Fundamental Truths" Most of the earlier anti-Pentecostal fervor died down in the latter half of the 1900s, as Pentecostal Christians grew in numbers and gained respect for the strength of their movement, and as certain elements of the movement were integrated into some older churches.
