When was the Assemblies of God Religion founded? Reprinted November 12, 1999
back
I recently received at work a pamphlet entitled "Is the Virgin Mary Dead or Alive?" from a Seventh Day Adventist. She also told me that we Catholics do not read the Bible. Should I have read her pamphlet? I just threw it away and told her that Catholics belong to the one true Church. You did the right thing. The pamphlet you refer to is not only polemical but also anti-Catholic. Some Seventh Day Adventist people are friendly, but the literature produced by their Church is often hatefully anti-Catholic. It seems they indoctrinate many of their members with such attitudes. The Seventh Day Adventist Religion is a type of Protestant, man-made construction, only founded in the last century in the United States. It is a result of misinterpreting the Bible and of their trying in vain to calculate exactly the time of the Second Coming of Christ. Many Seventh Day Adventists regard the trances, visions and writings of their "Prophetess," Ellen White, as equal to the Bible. Reprinted November 19, 1999

Assemblies of God Heresies (Assembly of God, Pentecostal) by David J. Stewart Who are the Assemblies of God? The official website of the Assemblies of God is www.ag.org Info and Stats - The 2nd largest of the Pentecostal Bodies are Assemblies of God (2.5 Million in USA) and Churches of God in Christ (3 million in USA) is the Largest Pentecostal Body in United States according to Denominations Comparison (Rose Publishing, 2003). Church of God (Cleveland, Tennessee), which is prominent in the South, had 890,000 membership in 1999. Mead's Handbook of Denominations (11th Ed. p265) says the following about the Origin and distinctive characteristics of the Assemblies of God: Some of the more common Pentecostal or 'Charismatic' Churches that arose out of this movement were: Assemblies of God, Pentecostal Churches, Independent Pentecostal Churches, Full Gospel Churches, Four-Square Gospel Churches, United Pentecostal Churches, or 'Jesus Only' (which deny the Trinity); Churches of God (Cleveland, Tennessee) with 890,000 members in 1999; Church of God of Prophecy, Apostolic Faith Churches, Church of God in Christ, Elim Fellowship Churches, Vineyard Churches International (which played a big role in the founding of The Promise Keepers Movement; Church of the Living God, and others. When Founded and By Whom Local churches are independent in polity and in conduct of local affairs. The government of the assemblies is an unusual mixture of Presbyterian and congregational systems. District officers have a pastoral ministry to all the churches and are responsible for the promotion of home missions, and each district has a presbytery that examines and recommends credentialing of ministers. The General Superintendent and other general church officers serve at the national headquarters in Springfield, Missouri.

Appellant-mother Eve Schuld belongs to a religious denomination that holds homosexuality to be a sin and appeals the juvenile court's order placing her son in a foster home where the foster caregivers are homosexuals. She claims the placement violates Minn.Stat. Section 260.181, subd. 3(d) (Supp.1997), which requires courts to place children in foster homes with a religious background the same as, or similar to, that of the parent, if the parent so requests. Because this record shows that mother was not concerned about the religious background of those running the foster home in which her child was placed, that she understood the available placement options, and that the placement was the best placement possible under the circumstances, we affirm.
FACTS
Mother's son was born in 1982, adjudicated CHIPS in 1991 and, with limited exceptions, has been in out-of-home placements since that time. In 1995, as a result of his conduct while in an out-of-home placement, son was adjudicated delinquent on charges of criminal sexual conduct and assault. Son has an IQ of 90, "struggles significantly in the area of verbal and written skills," and has been diagnosed with mixed bipolar, obsessive/compulsive, and paraphilia disorders. He also engages in self-injurious behaviors, generally refuses to comply with treatment requirements, and has a parent-child relationship problem. Son is oppositional and defiant and has been discontinued from, or refused by, several institutional placements.

A religious movement that has spawned a denominational family within the doctrinally conservative ("evangelical") wing of Protestant Christianity. The movement takes its name from the experience of Jesus' disciples on the day of Pentecost, described in the New Testament book of the Acts of the Apostles (2:4), when "they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance." Pentecostalism has grown dramatically worldwide throughout the twentieth century, making it arguably the most important recent development in Christianity. Although there are many readily identifiable pentecostal denominations movement are more difficult to obtain both because smaller, independent pentecostal churches tend to elude religious censuses and because it is impossible to quantify the influence of pentecostalism in non-pentecostal denominations. Estimates, however, range from 10 million to 29 million followers in the United States alone. What most clearly distinguishes pentecostalism and identifies it as a coherent religious family is the belief in and experience of "baptism of the Spirit" as evidenced by speaking in tongues (glossolalia)
