Kurt Behrendt in "South Asian International Trade and the Indian Ocean, 100 B.C.E. - 300 C.E.," sketches a picture of international trade networks between the Red Sea, Gujarat, and Gandhara, a civilization influenced by Hellenistic and Buddhist contacts and situated in modern-day Afghanistan. The key connecting point of this trade was West Indian region of Gujarat, where archeological sites at Junagadh and Sopara, and particularly Barygaza, bear out the trans-Arabian Sea trade of ivory, onyx, agat, cloth, silk, and powder from India to the Red Sea system in return for gold, silver, iron, and women. Home International Programs Asian Law and Policy Studies Program Georgetown University Law Center, one of America's most distinguished law schools and a national leader in the fields of international and comparative law, has demonstrated its commitment to the East and Southeast Asian region through the program in Asian Law and Policy Studies ("ALPS"). Asia, the world's most populous region, is of crucial importance to the United States. Japan, China, and the smaller Asian countries and regions Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Singapore account for nearly one-fourth of U.S. exports and one-third of U.S. imports. U.S. trade with Asia has surpassed its trade with all of Europe, both East and West, for a decade now; and the Asian lead is growing. Beyond the economic realm, Asian countries have become indispensable partners in the solution of the major international problems of the post-Cold War era, including international security, the environment, economic development, arms control and nuclear proliferation, human rights, and refugee flows. The growing interdependence between the United States and Asia has brought about much greater interaction for lawyers in both the public and private sectors. Increasingly, U.S. Government officials work closely with their Asian counterparts to achieve greater harmonization of law and policy in matters such as international trade, foreign direct investment, intellectual property, and competition. In the private sector, American lawyers are far more likely now than a decade ago to be dealing with Asians as clients, negotiating partners or adversaries, both in the United States and abroad.

15. Joda International Trading - About Us
Australian based import/export company that explores trade opportunities between Australia and South East asian neighbours.
http://www.jodainternational.com
Hello and welcome to the Joda International website. Joda International Pty. Ltd is an Australian based import/export company that was founded in 1998 to explore future trade opportunities between Australia and our close south east Asian neighbours, predominantly Vietnam. As Vietnam's closest ‘western’ neighbour, trade between Australia and Vietnam is an exciting and rapidly growing market. Australia currently enjoys ‘most favoured’ trade status with the Vietnamese government. EXPORT As licensed wine, brandy and grape product exporters, Joda International is currently exploring opportunities for Australian wineries and grape product in this developing region. Working in conjunction with the Vietnamese and Australian governments as well as established Vietnamese based importers and distributors, Joda aims to help the Australian wine industry secure a strong ‘foothold’ in the developing region as international trade opens up and wine appreciation becomes a lifestyle choice for the population. Joda international has a strong belief in the quality of Australian products and is continually searching for new and exciting trade opportunities. Please feel free to contact our export manager should you require any further information or are interested in exploring a market for your product.

  • Home Faculties Courses Admissions ... Undergraduate Courses Bachelor of Arts(Asian Studies)/Bachelor of Business (International Trade) Course Code ABBF Course Objectives The aims of the course are to provide graduates with:
    • a comprehensive overview of the theories, principles and practice of international trade and the relevant techniques and research skills;
    • a strong understanding of the history, economic development, cultural traditions, political systems and social traditions in a
      number of countries in the Asian region;
    • a solid grasp of an Asian language; and
    • a broad education not normally associated with a single undergraduate degree.
    Course Duration Four years full-time or part-time equivalent. Campus Footscray Park Course Description This combined degree program, which is managed by the School of Social Sciences in the Faculty of Arts, derives from the recognition that Australia is strategically located in the Asian region and our economic future is to a large extent dependent on how well we utilise the trade opportunities which exist. The importance of trade to Australia's economic future and the need to improve our level of Asian consciousness is reflected in this multi disciplinary study of the history, development, political systems and cultural context of the countries of the south east Asian region with an opportunity to study one of four Asian languages; Mandarin (Chinese), Japanese or Vietnamese. Graduates seeking positions in companies or government agencies which are involved in trade, economic or cultural relations with countries in the Asian region, will have both a good knowledge of the technical aspects of trade and a strong understanding of the cultural, political and historical development of the countries of the Asian region. This combined degree will give students a good grounding in both these aspects and considerably improve their attractiveness to potential employers in either the private or public sectors.
