The Province of Fars
As the Achaemenid Persians (550-330 BCE) rose to form an empire from the province of Fars, the Sasanian Persians (224-651 CE) also rose to power from the same province in the third century C.E. The province of Fars was not only their homeland but also their religious center, as evidenced by their surviving monuments, and was located near the Persian Gulf. The urbanization project by the Parthians and then the Sasanians brought about an influx of population from other parts of the Iranian plateau. Forced migration from the Near East also brought about a rise in population. Later Islamic sources as well as Middle Persian sources attest to the intense interest in the city-building projects of the Persian kings. The (The Provincial Capitals of is a Middle Persian text naming cities throughout Central Asia, the Iranian Plateau, Mesopotamia, and the Near East, and gives us a good view of this Persian campaign. Many of the , which may be translated as "provincial capitals" or major cities, are said to have been built by the Sasanian kings, or rebuilt by them, thus receiving the kings' names.

Goal
East Asian Archaeology is of interest to many different groups around the world. However, records of publications are not as well maintained in Asia as they are in the United States. Articles in a journal published last month are not easily located by someone in the west, unless they know exactly what they are looking for. The East Asian Archaeology site we have designed was envisioned by the Boston University International Center for East Asian Archaeology and Cultural History ( ICEAACH ) and allows anyone with access to the internet to search for and contribute bibliographic data related to archaeology in East Asia.
Content
Content on the site is dividided into Archaeological Sites, Articles, and Journals. ICEAACH intends to input data they have available, and then form partnerships with other East Asian Archaeology Departments to collaboratively expand the database. Casual users who are interested in the subject may also contribute data, subject to approval from a designated editor. Articles and Sites are designed to be linked to one another, allowing users to easily access additional information about particular sites and their associated articles.
Features
As the site is geared towards the organization of data from East Asian documents, users may enter and view Asian language characters. They can contribute and view content as well as add comments associated with items that are part of the site. A search feature is also provided to allow people to search for particular subsets of articles based on the various available fields.

Resources for the Study of Buddhism at Princeton University Princeton East Asian Library and the Gest Collection of rare books The East Asian Library has a collection of about 102,000 volumes of string-bound books in Chinese that attract visitors from many parts of the world because of the collection's research value and rarity. Most of these books were printed in the Ming (1368-1644) and the early part of the Qing (1644-1911) period, while a number are earlier editions. The collection deals with all aspects of Chinese culture, but is particularly strong in medicine, Buddhism, history, and literature. Among the unique items is a 5,000-volume compilation from several editions of the Buddhist canon known as the Qisha Da zang jing , of which a portion dates from the Song (960-1279) and Yuan (1271-1368) dynasties. In addition to the Chinese Gest Oriental Collection, The Rare Book Collection also contains some Japanese and Korean books, including the Robinson Go Collection, a set of Japanese books donated by the American Go Association; a few Manchu, Tibetan, and Mongolian language works; some important memorabilia of Sir Aurel Stein; Captain Leroy Lansing Janes's materials; and numerous curios. The Western Helmutt Wilhelm collection is located on the Third Floor of the East Asian Library; the other items are located in the Mudd Library.
