The editors are Lothar von Falkenhausen (University of California, Los Angeles) and Robert E. Murowchick (ICEAACH, Boston University), with editorial responsibilities being carried out through the International Center for East Asian Archaeology and Cultural History. JEAA is an international scholarly journal, primarily directed at academics and students, with its contents aimed at being of immediate relevance to practitioners in various subfields of East Asian Studies.
Articles printed in JEAA appear with Chinese, Japanese, or Korean characters accompanying romanizations. Yet it is also an explicit intention of the journal to reach out beyond the East Asian Studies community.

    Bibliography of Western-Language Works
    on East Asian Archaeology: Introduction
Compilation of this bibliography began in 1971 and has grown over the years with frequent additions. In 1990, in order to establish a vehicle for its publication, the EAANnouncements were created, which became the newsletter of the East Asian Archaeology Network (now transformed into the Society for East Asian Archaeology). For several years, Running Bibliographies, Members Bibliographies and Special Subject Bibliographies were published there; these are now accessible in the Archives on this Website. All the published references in these bibliographies have been dumped into the big bibliography presented here, organised by author surname. Additions to the bibliography will be added from time to time. These will first be offered as a separate listing so readers can see "What's New". After a time, these additions will be dumped in the big bibliography and integrated by author name in the big list. We are hoping that we can someday offer a search facility on this material, but meanwhile, we hope at least these references offered will help widen knowledge about East Asian archaeology. Because this list has been developed unsystematically, there are many omissions; thus, the list is not comprehensive and should not be mistaken to be. If any readers want their works on East Asian archaeology included, please send full citations, including publisher name and place and page numbers to

By Rasmi Shoocongdej, Department of Archaeology, Silpakorn University, Bangkok, Thailand "At the WAC-4 meeting in South Africa, I gave a regional report on a serious looting problem in Southeast Asia, particularly in Cambodia. Here, I would like to continue to address this critical issue: the illicit trafficking in archaeological treasures. I bring up this issue perhaps it is a global problem very frequently encountered in third world countries. Inevitably, this problem directly impacts on archaeological interpretation because artefacts lose value if we don’t know their provenance or associated context. Knowledge of the past is thus lost forever…
