Air Combat Command News Service
May 28, 2002 CANNON AIR FORCE BASE, N.M.  I can recall a conversation with a young man at a store some time ago. I had recently been commissioned in the Air Force. When I asked him if he worked in the local area, he said, "I work on base." He was apparently an active-duty military member. When he asked me where I worked, I replied, "I work on base as well." But before I could finish my response, he quipped, "Oh, so you work at the BX."
There are many Asian-Americans who work in the civilian sector on base and provide a valuable service to military people and their families. Despite what some people might think, there are also many Asian-American citizens who dedicate their lives to the United States through military service.
Before I joined the military, I told a man in a business office that I was born in the Philippines and my family and I immigrated to America when I was 13. He was proud to say he was stationed in the Philippines when he was in the military and knew a great deal about the country.
Then he said, "You speak good English."

Yellowworld Forums Interests Archives General ... PDA View Full Version : Asian-American military officer accused of spying... 09-23-2003, 10:32 PM I've read in today's article on CNN that an Asian-American naval officer was accused of spying.
The US government (or monsters) accuse Capt. James Yee of having "ties to radical Muslim groups in the US." Pure horse shit.
http://www.cnn.com/2003/US/09/23/airforce.detainee/index.html
His charges are espionage and treason.
I'd laugh if the majority of his charges are thrown out of court. DOesn't this remind you of Wen Ho Lee and Katrina Leung, the FBI agent? younggiftedandblack 09-23-2003, 11:46 PM I didn't read the whole article, but didn't they find some maps or something on him? Atleast that's what I heard earlier today. 09-23-2003, 11:54 PM That's what I heard too. Apparently, there was a report a few days back that there may be a handful of extremist Muslim sympathisers in the US military. Does anyone remember that one incident awhile back when a US soldier tossed a grenade into a tent full of his comrades? Must be rather unnerving to harbour the thought that there are wolves in sheep's clothing among the flock. AliBabaIncorporated 09-24-2003, 01:18 AM

Asian/Pacific American Heritage Month - May 2005
By the U.S. Census Bureau
About APA Heritage Month
In 1978, a joint congressional resolution established Asian/Pacific American Heritage Week. The first 10 days of May were chosen to coincide with two important anniversaries: the arrival in the United States of the first Japanese immigrants (May 7, 1843) and the completion of the transcontinental railroad (May 10, 1869). In 1992, Congress expanded the 10-day observance to a month-long celebration. Per a 1997 Office of Management and Budget directive, the Asian or Pacific islander racial category was separated into two different categories: “Asian” and “native Hawaiian or other Pacific islander.”
