Photo by Lisa Ventre A University of Cincinnati law professor has been named to a list of the 25 most notable Asians in America for 2001.
Jack Chin, the Rufus King Professor of Law at the UC College of Law, was named to the "aList 2001" by aMagazine, a 210,000-circulation national publication covering the Asian American community. Chin was selected in recognition of his leadership on a project to repeal anti-Asian Alien Land Laws that were identified as still on the books in four states. Chin is in select company on the list, called the 25 most noteworthy Asians in America in 2001 by the magazine. He joins prominent names like baseball star Ichiro Suzuki, U.S. Transportation Secretary Norm Mineta, actress Zhang Ziyi, golfer Tiger Woods, Avon Products CEO Andrea Jung, movie director Ang Lee and Coral Wong Pietsch, the first female Asian American general in the U.S. Army. Chin and a staff of UC law students working on the journal Immigration and Nationality Law Review researched and identified antiquated laws still on the books in Florida, Kansas, New Mexico and Wyoming. Wyoming has since repealed its law, while New Mexico's law is part of the state's constitution, meaning repeal will need to be voted on statewide in 2002.
