Introduction
People History Culture ... Communications Legal system Organization Provinces Disputes
Sudan Plants and Animal Back to Top The forestry subsector comprised both orthodox gatherers of firewood and producers of charcoal-the main sources of fuel for homes and some industry in urban areas-and a modern timber and sawmilling industry, the latter government owned. around 21 million cubic meters of wood, mainly for fuel, were cut in 1987. Gum arabic production in FY 1986-87 was about 40,000 tons. In the late 1980s, it became in most years the second biggest export after cotton, amounting to about 11 % of total exports. Sudan Communications Back to Top
large, well-equipped system by regional standards and being upgraded; cellular communications started in 1996 and have expanded substantially
domestic: consists of microwave radio relay, cable, radiotelephone communications, tropospheric scatter, and a domestic satellite system with 14 earth stations
international: satellite earth stations - 1 Intelsat
Sudan Culture Back to Top The Sudanese of the south are of African origin. Islam has made only modest inroads among these followers of orthodox religions and of Christianity, which was spread in the twentieth century by European missionaries, and Arabic has not replaced the various languages of the south. The strong regional and cultural differences have inhibited nation building and have caused the civil war in the south that has raged since freedom, except for a time of peace between 1972 and 1983. The distrust between Sudanese of the north and those of the southwhether elite or peasantshas deepened with the long years of hostilities. And the cost of war has drained valuable national resources at the expense of health, education, and welfare in both regions.

Chapter closes on rich Division II history
KSU has left its mark on the Peach Belt, hopes to make new one in A-Sun
By Nathan McCreary, Sr. Staff Writer Published: Wednesday, April 27, 2005 With warmer temperatures on the way, the last few 2004-2005 sports programs are winding down at KSU, and the final chapter is being written for the school as a Division II competitor.
In 1981, James "Spec" Landrum became the first Athletic Director for KSU and started the college sports programs. The school joined the Georgia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and became a member of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics. Soccer, men's and women's cross-country, outdoor track, women's basketball, cheerleading, men's and women's tennis and men's golf made up the first athletic program. In 1983, KSU added a baseball team, coached by former major league pitcher Jim Nash, who played for the Oakland A's, Atlanta Braves and Philadelphia Phillies from 1968-1972. Slow-pitch softball was also added.

Introduction
The present essay will trace a brief historical backdrop suggesting the main cultural connections which generated the literature and other art forms that owe their origins to the Dutch participation in this African and American saga. The technical skill the Dutch gained in their constant struggle at home with the sea proved to be of great value in establishing their bases along the delta regions of the South American continent. The United Provinces States General granted the United East India Company, a trading company founded in 1602, a subsidy and a monopoly for Dutch trading in the world from the Cape of Good Hope through the Pacific. The West India Company, founded in 1621, was given the trade monopoly in the Americas and West Africa and a special mission of supporting the war effort against Spain...

Fort-de-France is the capital. The department and the island of Martinique are coextensive. Land, People, and Economy Of volcanic origin, the island is rugged and mountainous and reaches its greatest height in Mt. Pel©e . The mainly Roman Catholic population is largely of African descent; minorities include those of European, Asian Indian, Lebanese, and Chinese origin. French and a creole patois are spoken. Most agriculture exists in the hot valleys and along the coastal strips; a large part of this area is devoted to sugarcane, which was introduced from Brazil in 1654 and which provides one of Martinique's chief exports, rum. Bananas and pineapples are also important agricultural products. The island's industries consist mainly of petroleum refining, sugar and rum production, and pineapple canning. Tourism, which has eclipsed agriculture as a source of foreign exchange, constitutes a major sector of the economy, and the majority of the people work in the service sector or administration.
